Size Comparison

Hey guys, I need some pics. I'm looking into my first ESEE purchase and I need some size comparisons, I currently EDC a Bark River Bravo Necker II (the bigger one), and I was thinking of getting a ESEE 3 as my first one but will probably pass on the 3 and get the 4 if the 3 is very close to the bravo necker II in size.

So if anybody can point me towards some size comparison pictures I'd really appreciate it, thanks

P.S. I'm a long time blade nut but this is my first post here, long time lurker

This might help...

It's where I got these pics from... it compares the Izula, the ESEE-4, and the Junglas.

Good luck!

I can't really help you on comparisons apart from numbers (sorry.) But did want to say hi, and welcome to the forums (to posting on them anyway.) Hopefuly I can be more useful in the future.

God bless,
Adam

PS: I don't have a 3 but the ESEE-4 is a great blade. Way too heavy to neck IMHO (I tried and got neck aches which turned into headaches.)

Also Menace, what are your intended uses for the knife? This is everything in deciding what the right knife is for you....

Welcome to the forums!

for me i would go with the esee, mainly because i love 1095, there awsome warranty.......and i dont know haw to sharpen convex =(

+1 If you throw that info out much more help can be offered.

God bless,
Adam

PS: Do you have any feral hogs in your area...

I posted some pics here of some blades I got. I think I have the HEST and a 3.

I can take some pics when I get home for you if you can't find any, though. I'd be glad to help.

I can try to find a ruler so you know the approximate size also.....or a commonly-sized item.

edit: Here are some pics of the 3 versus the old HEST. I can do this with a 3 and a 4 later today if you'd like.

Here is a wide shot with both knives and their respective sheaths.

Here is a picture with the handles lined up:

The 3 fits in your hand a bit differently. Instead of feeling like you are all choked up on the knife, my hand fits the handle great with my pinky on the micarta....it definitely isn't too short. The knife feels more like a good-sized knife extending out of your hand opposed to a smaller bit of knife extending out.

With the 3 choked up, I have a good 2.5" or so when I choke up on it. I can take pictures if you don't understand, but I'll need to get new batteries for my camera.

Here are two pictures where I align them according to where your index finger rests. You can see the longer handle of the HEST and how the blade extends from where you'd handle/have control over it.

this comparison was already covered, but its still an excuse to post a pic of my 3mil next to one of my izulas.

Just got the 3 with some custom scales from Dale at TKC. Really love how the knife handles, I would highly recommendit.

Thanks so much for your help so far guys.

My intentions for the knife is to be just an all-around knife to live in my pack and ride on my belt when camping and hiking etc.

Let me be a little more clear on the pictures I'm looking for, I already have a Bravo Necker II from Bark River and was wondering how it compared to the size of the 3. I didn't want to get a 3 if they're close to the same size, then I'd rather have the 4.

So does anybody have the bravo necker II and an esee 3 or 4?

I dont have any photos of the barkie necker with the ESEE's but i will say this- most people who buy the ESEE 3 LOVE IT..you cant go wrong with it, its light, strong and just the right size to carry with you as an EDC item. For me however i prefer the ESEE 4, it is thicker than the 3 and the blade is longer, but not by much..if you are going to be out in the bush, building shelters, battoning i would buy the 4..The 3 and the 4 perform intricate bushcraft tasks really well. hope this helps.

If you cant get find any pics, then get the specs from the interwebz and try drawing them up on a piece of a cardboard.

i would pick a 4 over a 3 as well. i don't have either, but the three is similar in size to my edc folder and i'd rather have something different to carry. i also carry an izula, which is probably closer to your necker. i think a 4 would be the better choice since it's a little bigger and will give you more options. just make sure you check your carry laws if you plan on carrying it concealed. from my understanding, you can't carry a blade that size concealed in some places .

edit: plus everyone on here sings praises for the 4 constantly. they've got me wanting one too.

this is the reasoning I was talking about, I EDC a barkie necker and didn't want to go on a hike with 2 knives of similar size.

I think I may go for a 4 then as my first ESEE, thanks guys for all your help

Hope this helps:

I don't mean to thread hi-jack, but how does the Izula EDC vs the HEST? I'm in the market for a small fixed, but wanted it unobtrusive when worn on the belt. The HEST has some nice options on it, but is the size worth the extra bells and whistles?

the izula carries much smaller than the hest since it is alot smaller. i usually just stick it in a pocket though instead of bothering with a belt.

take it easy
