Size of hex screws on Spyderco Tenacious?

Not sure what size I used on the Tenacious... I just have what seems to be a large collection of hex keys around my house. :)

What I don't have is a little torx bit to fit other knives I have.

Yeah a T6,T8, and a T10 well pretty much give you everything you need for torx.

Update: Spyderco service got back to me yesterday saying that they could only send me the clip screws (I had asked for the body screws too, since they are the same irregular size). They told me this was because the knife is not made in the US and parts are limited. They also told me that if I disassembled the knife I would void the warranty.

I'm sort of disappointed. First, saying that the knife was not made in the US and so they don't have body screws seems like a huge cop out. It's a spyderco, and covered under the same warranty. It also seems ridiculous that they said that if I disassembled the knife I would void the warranty. It's not like Spyderco sells any knives that are complicated to put back together; I've disassembled liner locks and lockback knives before for routine cleaning, lubing and such, and the inability to do so without voiding the warranty, in my mind, limits the functioning range of the product. Disappointing.

Agreed on all points. I've seen in other threads mentioned that Benchmade also has the disassembly=voided warranty clause, so it appears somewhat standard. To me, not being able to disassemble a knife without voiding the warranty simply means there is no warranty, as not being able to take one apart is intolerable.

On the up side, Spyderco (and Benchmade) do not actually verify the knife has not been disassembled if sent in for repairs, so it's more of a way to prevent them from getting a bag of parts in the mail than anything else. Still, it is less than ideal.

I just got a Tenacious today and am having the same exact problem. T6 is too loose and just slipped right away and T7 will not fit. I can't get screws out to save my life in order to change the pocket clip. I'm surprised that this many people have brought this up and Spyderco hasn't fixed it yet. I don't think putting some higher quality screws in the knife will raise the cost any noticeable amount. I guess I'll ask Spyderco what they recommend to get the screws out and what I should do to prevent this in the future. I had a screw issue with my Manix 2 as well.

^One trick to get stripped screws out is to have an elastic band between the screw head and screwdriver. You may be able to get the T6 to unscrew it doing that, since the elastic will fill in some of the space, though I'm not really sure if this technique works with torx (I've only used it with phillips).

I also just picked up a tenacious.
I got mine changed with a 1/16" hex, but it wasn't a good fit (little loose).
I freakin hate metric hardware!

I just got 4 new screws and the 2011 catalog in the mail. I'm finally able to put a third screw back in.

no idea what you guys are talking about. i have two tenacious's purchased more than 12 months apary. they both have t6 screws on the body and the clip and the pivot is a t8

I heard that Sanrenmu makes the tenacious, and my Sanrenmu knives use hex screws not torx. I ended up stripping the screws on my tenacious aswell, I hate when they mix things up!

My persistence is hex. 1/6" on the clip, Spyderco sent me more screws and those were hex as well.

Yeah they sent me them free, they actually replied within a half hour of my email and I sent them my address and there now on the way...1/6" was the closest bit I could find and everyone on spydercos forums says the same thing so there wasnt much I could do. I know others had the same issue, seems to be cheaply made hardware.

heres the screw: you can see the slot I cut into the top.

Thank you so much! You saved me from losing my mind. Cut the slots with my dremel and I was able to take them out no problem. Thanks again bro!

Just moved my clip to tip up, and after trying almost every torx and hex driver I had, I got out my trusty Wave and 42 bit driver set. The 1.5 mm hex bit fits the clip screws perfectly. If you have a Leatherman that accepts the bits, but no additional bits, Amazon now sells the complete kit for a little over $11. Hope this helps.

does anyone know the exact size as I would rather buy some good screws from a knife making supply place are replace them. I'm having the same problem.

Not sure, I'm going through this same annoyance. As soon as I find out the proper thread size I'm replacing all of them. The screws are junk, and Spyderco not willing to even sell replacement scale screws is a joke.

The clip screws that came in mine were neither allen nor torx, they were bristol 6! I haven't needed a bristol 6 in years. They were xcelite 99-62 for anyone who needs to order the tool it fits tight and didn't strip.
