SJ-1 Grinder Test & Evaluation

You would have thought that those issues would have been worked out in those first years

That's the point, there are almost no complaints about those issues in local Chinese market, that's why I had the nerve to bring it to you in the first place. I suppose it's because the damage that violent carrier did to the machine? Anyway without videos and pictures I can't tell where the problems. I'm gonna make a video on my own machine and post it here, maybe you will think differently.

Hank, Stacy was referring to the photo attachments you posted on how to change the belts not the attachments for the grinder.

Oh thanks Darrin, you have to click in to see the photos. Sometimes attachments turn out this way, if anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.

The belt tensioning system looks similar to the one used on the Australian made Radiusmaster (also a 2x48), which is an excellent grinder. I use a Radiusmaster in my own shop and can attest that it's an extremely solid, stable, and versatile machine. I've never had any issues with the belt tensioning system, and as for sparks, the Radiusmaster comes installed with little covers that go over the wheels and catch most all of them before they get back around. Perhaps worth considering on the SJ-1 as well.

Upload the pictures to a host site like photobucket or something. Then click on the picture. Next look for the IMG address bar, it should start with URL. Copy and paste this in the reply box. This will post the pictures without having to click on a link.

I would think that some sort of brush/guard at the top would solve the spark issue but it may get too hot.

According to Darrin the attachments works fine, but he didn't make detailed assessments about that.
I think Darrin is pretty disappointed at this machine, I'm very confused how it turned out this way because this grinder has proved itself during past years in China, and Chinese folks are pretty picky at what they buy.

He's talking about your attachments in your last post, which are supposed to show how to change a belt?

Thanks Wulf, the cover is a good idea and I think I'll add it on SJ-1 grinder.

All the pictures together shows how to change belts. I will try photobucket later and fix this thing, but if you have the patience for this you can click in each pics and see.

Darrin,
The possible reason why the belt won't track dead center could be the crown on the Idler wheel. Run a 1" piece of masking tape around the center of the Idler wheel a couple of times. This may solve that problem?

So it has the belt tensioning setup similar to the retarded one on the origin Jancy Radius Master? Not good. That is one reason that I bought a KMG to replace the Jancy. The novelty wore off REAL quick.

Opinions may vary. I like my radiusmaster far more than I ever liked my KMG.

When did you buy yours? It is a bit different now. Mine had a bad habit of snapping belts and that is when you get a REAL look at the tensioning system on the original the methods of attaching accessories like the work table for the small wheel attachment was also less than satisfacor as were the adjustment toggles. Mine has a broken fan/shroud now and the only reason that i will eventually fix it is so I don't have to pay a couple of grand for a horizontal grinder, which is about all I used the Jancy for once I got my KMG.
