Sjtac

Sorry about the thread hijack but what is it about the SJTAC blade profile that makes it better for SERE?

Keep in mind these are just my opinions. I like the blade profile better on the SJT because its better for batoning and its designed as a "do-all" blade, hence the name Jack {of all trades but master of none). The HR is designed more as a fighting knife with a thinner spine to reduce friction in a stabbing type motion.Another factor is the fact that the HR looks "evil" and since its a figting style knife may not be permitted by some commanders. They both can fill either role though and are very simular in fit and feel. The one thiing in the fit and feal catagory that is totally different is the handle. The SJT has the upward palm swell that I have learned to hate. The HR has one but its less noticable and fits my hand much better that TAC style handle.

I got to say one thing and this is from the heart.... You busse guys are great, and I for one Thank you for all the input and help finding what I needed:thumbup: .

Thanks Coyote,

I have a SJTAC just like Recondo4u's (tan with black paper).

The first think I noticed about it was the shape of the handle just didn't fit me like my Mud Razor. There was also a Mini Eu-17 in the same box and it fits me like a glove.

I hadn't thought about batoning but I can see how the false edge of the Hell Razor would chew up the baton.

The only commander I know is my sister and I never listen to her.

The only commander I worry about is the house commander and she likes the HR. In fact the green tan one was supposed to be mine. I ended up with black/black, Guess who got my blade? LOL.

My sister is a doctor in the Navy.

I got her a Buffalo Warden for Christmas (among other things).

She was unimpressed.

Hey Team Leader,
So far I like them fine, But all I've done is held it in my hand.

Glad to hear it. Put a little gun oil/ dish soap on your hands and see if you can grip it.
The real bottom line on the profile thing is how you plan/ think you'll use it and how it feels in YOUR hand. A blade like the SJTAC will do the majority of things VERY well w/out the added bulk. Longer vs shorter blade comes down to leverage. Much easier to pop things open, doors etc., with the added length. After carrying an original SJ on my gear in the desert I found it almost disappeared after a while. But then again I was fine with carrying my SHBM when I was in an area where I might be doing soom chopping.

Stay safe

BTW nice patch. We didn't get those in '81;)

Exactly that is why I did not get the SJTac while I had a chance. In my oppinion the middle palm swell could be a bit reduced even on HR, at least for my smallish hands...But its not uncomfortable the way it is on HR. (I have one with standard grips).

Nice score on a good lookin' blade! I hope it serves you well. Good luck!

recondo4u,

Nice blade and I hope it serves you well!
IMHO, the SJTAC is better suited for your intended use. A slightly smaller blade might be nice but think it will be most useful.

Thanks for your service and best wishes on your journey!!
