If you skateboard -please post in this thread! (Past or Present: Street, transition, pool, downhill, freestyle... Its all good!)

There is something about skate-culture that is very knife-friendly, and it is no surprise to me that there are many members who skateboarded at one point or another.

I have been seeing a lot of comments lately about skating, and I just had to be curious how many members there are that share this activity in common.

I look forward to your replies!

Me: I like to skate transition and pool style parks. I have tried everything at one point or another, but I aways revert back to transition and pool stuff. I like concrete parks with steep trannys, gnarly coping, and curvy lines.:D

I recently got back onto a board after a new skatepark was built where I live. It has been a while, but it is all coming back to me.

I like to go really fast. My boards are at least 8.5 wide. Always Indy trucks. Ceramic bearings. My wheels are at least 60's and I like at least 1/4 inch risers. I just picked up some larger 64 diameter hard wheels and another 1/8 inch riser to make the set-up insanely fast. Should be fun.:D

PS -Has anyone seen Animal Chin? Last I heard he might be hanging out on bladeforums...

:D

i used to skate - but it was some time ago- from ages about 11 to about 16, when i got a car -that would make it 1984- 1989- i would say the golden age - mostly just on the street but had some friends who would build ramps, 1/2 pipes mostly - also skated at a few parks - in my teen years it seemed everyone had a knife on them at all times (guys at least)- back then if you got caught with one at school they would just call your parents- and they could pick up your knife - you would get detention, but not a big deal - by the time i was 16 ,guys who had a car no longer skated , that was also when i started drinking and smoking , among other things best left unsaid- but i wish i had kept doing it now , i would probably be in better shape- had a great time doing it while i did though - tony hawk is probably the only skater from that time you know of and he still skates and he is 5 years older than me - marc

just minis and longboards for me now. Works with my dog, kids on bikes, etc. I had a quarterpipe in my front yard in the early 80s, but I am more into just cruising/pumping, and slalom is looking more interesting these days.

I longboard every day. It's awesome exercise and is a great way to relieve stress.

I was never very good at short boarding but did try it. I'll be checking this thead often!

30+ years for me. i grew up skating the Pink Panther skate park in Slidell, La. Now I'm in Austin and there's a plethora of old dudes, like myself, still skating.
sorry. no action pics

I skated in the 70's when skating pools was where it was at. The pool across the street from my house was my home for a couple summers. I would bust my butt so bad if I tried today. Still love my Vans though.

I started back in the 60's but was not happy with the equipment (at least what I knew and could afford), gave downhill a weak attempt in the eighties but had no one to learn from, and now I just got a longboard and Big Stick. I'm think a longboard may be just what I always wished a skateboard was. Hoping to start with cruisin and carving, work up to some dancing and freeriding and hope to be able to resist downhill. Oh, and landpaddling, too.

For any who don't know, check out silverfish, a really great longboard community with something for everybody

I longboard all the time, like KalEl said it is very relaxing. I don't do the whole short board thing, too much kicking and not enough control for me, but I love cruising around town on my longboard when I have the time.

Is that a Loaded Vanguard? If so, that's one of my favorite decks ever. I mainly ride Arbor, but my buddy has a Loaded Vanguard and I love it.

I used to skateboard in the early 90's in they tony hawk days, and can still skate, but haven't gotten on a board in many a moon..

though on a side note, one of my roommates from college is now a really amazing current skateboard photographer, i believe he works for Skateboarding Magazine, here are a few of his shots photos courtesy of Aaron Smith

I used to skate many years ago. I got pretty good at vert, mostly half-pipes in the 9'-10' range with a couple of 12'ers in there for good measure. I could pull off four to five foot airs, a couple different inverts, body jars, fakie ollies, etc. When I was 15 I broke my left forearm really bad (both bones came through the skin  ). I broke the same wrist about a year later and after that I kind of lost my nerve. The pros that were big back then were the Bones Brigade guys, Lance, Steve, Mike, and Tony. Also, guys like Christian Hosoi, Monty Nolder, and Tony Magnusson. Every couple of years I'll grab some kids board and spin a few 360's and maybe pop a few ollies. It's a younger man's game but I had lots and lots of fun back in the day. And no I haven't seen him.

Nice pictures! Now I want to go skate.. Im not as good as I once was, lots of longboarding these days. it's much more relaxing and rewarding at the end of the day than crashing doing (or trying to do) tricks. but now and again I still like to street skate or at skateparks. but nothing beats a nice fast longboard slide... or a parking garage run :D

I tried skateboarding when I was 11-12 maybe and never really liked it very much. Within the last year though I bought a longboard and have been using it to get around campus. Now that I'm home for the summer, I find myself grabbing the board to just ride around rather than my bike which I always usually ride. Like a couple others have said, theres something relaxing about it. Granted, if I want to really excercise on a long ride, my bike is still my "go-to" means.

I bought my long board last november because I wanted something different besides a bike so after reading alot on silverfish i decided to set one up for pushing because im a big dude and im not going to be doing any tricks haha, so heres the board. a landyachtz evo on caliber trucks with 97mm flywheels and bones super reds (size 13's for reference)

was sponsored for a few years, even went semi pro for a while. then my life kind of moved around real fast.

I was a skater until my late teens. I grew up on Thrasher Magazine and Transworld. Animal Chin and the other Bones Brigade videos were important to me growing up. A real gamechanger was Plan B's Questionable video. Still watch that every few years.

First real deck was a Powell Peralta Ripper with risers, Slime Balls, and likely a nose and tail bone! Ha!

Towards the end, no extra hardware, no risers, the smallest wheels possible. The truck nuts were kept finger tight.

Good times.
