Hey Forum!

I wanted to take a moment to update everyone on some of the contests and polls we have been doing these last few months.

First, the Perfect Marksman 830 contest ended with a winner (who I'm sure is extremely impatient for news). I'm happy to announce the ship date from Buck Knives to us is set for June 24th. Hopefully they get them done even sooner than that!

Second, we did a poll on some different colored 110s in G10 you'd like to see. Those knives are being built in the factory right now. We used your top three color choices with the Nickel Silver bolsters and CPM-154 steel in a drop point blade. Black, Gray and Orange G10 110s will be coming out beginning to middle of June. So, thank you very much for your input on those!

Finally, we came out with a 110 Cocobolo Flat grind in D2 that we started with one price and have since dropped slightly. You all have been a huge source of support and information for us. We know that when you run out and buy something, and the price drops a month later, it sucks. So, we made up a coupon code to hopefully curb the sting. The code is "BUCKFORUM16" for $5.00 off. It will be good until Mother's Day.

Thank you all again! Without you, there is no us, seriously.

Woohoo! Can't wait to get the 830 in hand. You guys are knocking it out of the park with the variants and sprints you're putting out. Keep up the great work!

You made too good a deal for me to pass up on the D2 110...thanks! Just placed an order.

The 110s coming out in June sound like I might have to get a gray and a black.
I especially like your blade choice on those.
Mark

Nice,

The D2 is now out of stock per your web site! A day late and a dollar short;)

Like the sound of those June 110's, any chance there would be some without the nail nick? The drop point blades are better without them imo.

I agree. It was tough for me to pass on the BG-42, but the nick is ugly not to mention redundant on a big drop-point blade, imho...

It's an interesting dilemma when designing a 110. We are going rivetless on the June 110s with a medallion in the inlays. This gives it a very sleek look, but also makes the blade look very weak without a nail notch to balance it out. Now, if you two can come up with a fantastic argument, I still have a few days to cancel the nail notch :) But, the BG-42 blade sold faster than any knife we've done nail nick and all. Now back to you! :D :P

I can come up with more functional arguments FOR nail notches than I can for without. I just like the look of a clean slab of sharpened steel.

I would ask this question of the 110/112 users:
When you open the blade on your knife, do you pinch it between the fingers, or put your fingernail in the provided groove?

I'm a pincher myself, but when my hands are wet, sweaty, bloody, etc... that notch sure is nice to give some grip!

Form follows function, right? If given the option of "with" or "without" though, I would go "without" every time. Again, my own personal preference in this case goes to aesthetics.

It's not fair that you use the BG-42 as the example... It's BG-42! Of course they're going to move quickly. You could have etched butterflies and unicorns on the blades and they would have sold out... :D

Hmmmm..butterflies and unicorns. You might be on to something!!! I actually favor the non nail notch myself as I am also a pincher and the notch seems redundant. But I don't run the business alone. We have gone back and forth on it. Each time, we compare a clean blade and a notched blade, and somehow, the notch comes out on top. Maybe we are cracked? We are going to take one more look at it.

Thanks for the reply and BG-42, touche!

MT said it all pretty well, but I'll echo that BG-42 sold those knives. Some of us remember the Master Series. :) As for the "weak" argument, don't you guys ever look at the back of the blade? Why is it OK for that side to be "weak"? We left handers see it all the time. Leave the rivets if you need to, and since we're talking maybe drop the medallion too, whatever that may be...

...Function trumps appearance every time.

True enough, but in 25+ years of 110's (and 112's) I can't remember a single time I didn't just pinch it open. And that is with clip blades, a drop point gives even more grip, making a nick even less necessary. There is almost no function in this case.

To be honest, I think they'll be popular either way.

SK Blades has done an amazing job bringing us these knives. Awesome.

I agree with Makael 100%. Despite my personal preference, I'm but a raindrop in the ocean. If not for the likes of SK and others, we wouldn't have these products. I hope no one takes my comments as derogatory. I look forward to seeing what SK is cooking up. If it's not my cup of tea, I'll wait for the next one.
Great work SK! Keep it up!

I use the nail nick when butchering and field dressing or any times hands are wet. I would pick it over no nick being all my knives are users.

I was on the fence with the D2. The price drop and coupon made it a deal.
Thanks

Music to my ears! After you see it and hold it, you'll wonder why you were ever on the fence! :P

MT: I welcome the disagreements and the discussions. Your opinions and thoughts are always welcome, as is for the rest of you. Out of great discussion comes great ideas!
