Anyone ordered a Skeletool yet?

I ordered one for my wife a couple days ago for her B-day request.

Amazon.com. Release day 1-15-08.....

Somehow, I'm thinking it will come back to me before summer...

I've been thinking about picking one up when they're available. I've been staring at the photos on equipped since Doug Ritter posted his review last summer.

http://www.equipped.org/ORSummer2007.htm (near the bottom of the page)

At 5 oz the Skeletool is significantly lighter than the 8.2 oz. Charge TTI. Doug says it's also significantly thinner than the Charge so it should be more comfortable for pocket carry. But I don't think that the difference in size is as great as the difference in the variety and selection of tools. I'd definitely miss the diamond coated file that's on the Charge but I'd be glad to say goodbye to the small bit driver (I've yet to use it). I'd probably never use the carabineer on the Skeletool. I'm also not sure I'd like having to use the bit driver with the handle fully open. In my opinion, the PST, PST II, and SideClip are still hard to beat in terms of small size and large utility.

I'm tempted to buy a Skeletool since it's shiny and new ;) but I really haven't made up my mind yet. Maybe you guys can help convince me.

I'm still up in the air when it comes to the skeletool. I have wanted a pair of bare bone pliers with a good knife for some time now. For me, a multi-tool needs to have pliers (regular or needlenose), knife blade, and a bottle opener. Screwdrivers are nice too. That sounds about like the Skeletool in a nutshell.

However, I have to say that I'm really digging the ByrdRench I got for Christmas. I know that it's more gadget than tool, but there are better tools out there than what the skeletool offers too. The Byrd's knife blade seems to hold a better edge than the 420 of a regular leatherman (the 154cm Skele is out. I can't stand combo edges:barf:...the main reason I went for the the Byrd over the SpydeRench), The pliers lift caps with ease, and the bit driver takes standard bits. Really, the only thing that the Spyderco tool doesn't have is a wirecutter. I use that quite often at work, but I also have wirecutters at work. As an EDC, the Rench is working out well.

That said, I have a birthday coming up in February....maybe I can deal with a combo edge on a "toy";)

Man, I am really about to say to hell with this tool. I respect leatherman for not releasing a sub-par tool. However, as the leader in multi-tools, I would think that they could get this right pretty quick without all the delays.

I'm just frustrated and disappointed:(

I was too. Wanted to move on to another source. Can't find one yet...

So now, because of wife's demand of "I want that tool!" She's collects knives and guns. I have two on order from Amazon.... I like Amazon. Fair prices and one click ordering, easy to navigate their site.

We do other business with them too.

I'll let you know when they come in.... I think Leatherman came up with a good Idea and are inundated with orders from the factory to the distributors....

Any other sources, supplies or better pricing would be much appreciated.:D

Amazon.com just notified me that my two Skeletools shipped today. I ordered them sent standard shipping. Am expecting to see them around the
29-30th! ZOWIE!:cool::thumbup::D

Cool! If you get a chance, I'd like to hear your impressions of it after you get it. Mine is "shipping soon".

I'd like to hear some thoughts too:)

I have put the skeletool on the backburner for the time being, but a really positive review would make a purchase much sooner than later:D

I'm counting the days... Havn't been this excited since the day I ordered my first SuperTool, years ago! Stay tuned....

Great pictures-thanks!

I still cannot get very excited about it. It just does not have what I need in a multi-tool.

I should get mine tomorrow but I'm looking forward to hearing FolderFan's impressions of it. It'll be interesting to compare opinions.

P.S. I'm gonna get mine before Joe! I'm gonna get mine before Joe! ...just teasing Joe! :)

Hi Supratentorial,

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Skeletool. Not worried that you are getting yours first as my 10th Anniversary PST arrived today. Both at the same time might have been an overload.

Best - Joe

Joe,

You can send me the 10th Anniversary PST if you get overloaded! ;) ...just teasing (well, sort of :D ). The Skeletool didn't arrive yet. Maybe tomorrow. But I'm hoping that FolderFan is gonna write a full review. I'm tired of hearing my own opinion. ;)

-Jake
