Skin a squirrel-Graphic

I'll have to try that Nick, thanks.
My cooking method varies with every batch.
Anyone have the "exact" parboiling time that falls in between falling off the bone and rubber?
I'll probably try to roast one over a fire this week!

How many of you have gotten squirrels that look like this...

I know they are still ok to eat like this.. but I usually wait until the first good freeze in Georgia to go hunting for them.. That is just disgusting. But I guess you can look on the bright side and consider it a bonus snack that you can eat right there on the spot.. :barf:

Also.. don't look up bot fly... there are plenty of pictures of them being extracted from every part of the human body.. including the eye.

Yeah man, thats awful. We always called em "wolves". Since I moved to North GA I havent seen one with em yet.

If you get your squirrels early in the season here in Ga you'll see them. I have not come across any this year. It is a parasite that lives under the skin. The are like giant larvae or maggots. They are not supposed to infect the meat but if I got one as bad as the pic, I'm not eating it!!!!

lastdaze> I wouldn't know bud. Seen an abundance of house/feral cats around your place? I do know the old guys around here talk about population booms every decade or so then the population dwindles again. I don't know if theres any truth to that though.

Population increases or dwindles depending on the habitat. If food is not plentiful or there is competition a lot squirrels will eventually die. This in turn affects the predators, and their numbers will also dwindle the next year. With a lack of predators and more food squirrel numbers will again begin to climb. And more prey means more predators.
Thats the basic cycle. In reality its much more complicated and many other factors are involved.
