Skinning knives

Absintheur that Gerber is awesome, how old is it and what is the steel(Vascowear?)?

It is interesting to see the different blade shapes that folks consider a skinning knife.

 +1 on the Schrade Sharpfinger for small game. I prefer something a little less "pointy" for larger game, as you're not as close to your work and it's a little harder to control the tip of the knife. I really like both the SDS and Absintheur examples from earlier posts for bigger game.

The Schrade Sharpfinger. A classic skinner, you can still find the originals.

Those look familiar. :p

I tend to prefer the Loveless-style drop point skinners. I've got a U.S.-made Schrade custom Pro-Hunter with Stag scales that is just about as perfect of a skinner that I've seen. Just an awesome little knife.

I have an inexpensive CRKT Alaska Bwana That has been an awesome skinner for years! I also did well this year with my ZT 0350. But I have used a Buck 110 more than anything in 30+ years of hunting!!!;)

I found the Spyderco StreetBeat a while back and fell in love. I've used it now on 3 elk and 1 deer and it holds up great. 2 of the elk, I gutted, skinned and boned completely with out sharpening it during the process.

It's small enough to get your hand completly around it, which allows you to get inside the animal. I haven't done small game or birds, but I'm sure it'd work fine.
