Skinny ASH users.

I can definitely give it the big thumbs up! Love mine. Looking to grab another one, probably. Hard call for me between it and the NMSFNO in terms of which to grab.

The Skinny ASH is a convex main grind that doesn't go all the way to the spine, so I guess it could be called a saber/convex or convex/saber. The first one I saw like this was the FSH, and I think it may be the best way to grind a med/big blade.

Thank you for the clarification. That's what I was trying to describe exactly.

BTW, the ASH1LE weighs in at between 15 and 15.5 oz -- at least my three fell into that range. Anybody have a postal scale to see what the "new skinny" .22-thick ones weigh?

thanks again,
w

Thanks for your input so far, guys. That Skinny looks like a good belt knife. I have an FSH and BM on my mind too, but doubt they'd be as good of a "general" users and belt carry knife as the Skinny. Although... the FSH might do it good.

Any more in-hand shots of the Skinny?

Thanks!

Is there a specific angle or shot you want to see? I know how helpful pics can be!

The last group of ASh1s I saw at knob creek were .22 thickness ; a nice medium sized blade between the massive .32 and the skinny .187 the original LEs were .22 and I thought when they came out.... "man what a good width CG this would be"
I"ve got one skinny and the 3B2 which could be classified as a skinny too..
great blades. this is my favorite so far... .22 CGASh1

now that is a good looking Ash! In a completely hetero way!

So, what do you guys think of the Skinny (let's include the .22 thick version too) vs. an FSH (.25)? 1.5" extra in blade length - 2" overall. Any input as to what one can do over the other? Is the FSH able to be comfortably carried on belt?

Thanks.

The Skinny ASH will be a better all arounder but the fsh will beat it everytime at chopping or battoning. Ask yourself if the latter is a priority. Also take into consideration the significant price difference of probably more than a $100 depending on model and condition. I don't think I've seen a fsh for less than $400 where I'm sure in this market you could get a skinny for around $300. I think there are also less fsh willing to be let go by their owners.

For me, I steer clear of blades over 7 inches for belt carry while hiking - I feel that the smaller blade is thr one I would always be inclined to grab and I still use my sub 4"ers the most by far.

With that said, the fsh is iconic busse and a true classic, if that's important to you.

I say if you are really dead set on the larger fsh - why not just wait for the skinny bushwacker mistress - sure it's two more inches long but it's thinner and you get to pick your colors. Might also wind up being cheaper direct from busse than buying a second hand fsh!

I don't have a skinny ash, but do have an FSH. Realize that there are lots of versions of the FSH, in many different thicknesses. I'm not sure what the thickness of mine is, but it's a beast. It's NOT a knife I would carry on my belt. If I was gonna carry an 8" knife, it'd be the NMSFNO, which is a bit lighter.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate your input. I'm thinking the good trio right now would be a BM, FSH, and Skinny ASH. But... that's just thinking aloud. :-)
