Skinny or Standard ASH-1?

My vote is for the fatty. I've convexed mine and polished the edge, slices like a champ and the extra weight is there when you need it.

I have a CG and I just recently handled a Skinny. I'm glad I bought that fatty because it seems so much tougher... but now I want a Skinny. DO the right thing, and just pick up both.

well i guess some folks just like a fat ash.

jaxx and myself lean towards a skinny ash

.

I've got 3 skinnies, so I obviously like them:
1) a Desert sage w/ black canvas micarta mags (44ASH3) I bought at the company store,
2) a Black w/ black & tan G10 mags + Armorall sheath I bought on the Exchange, and
3) a Bama clay w/ std tan micarta I picked up at Knob Creek (Fall 2008 -- as far as I know, that may be a unique configuration; they only had one when I bought it)

I haven't used a fat ASH-1, I simply didn't like the balance with the straight handle and a heavy blade, although I held a FSH and it was pretty good.

Curious the differences between each of us... for me the fat ASH-1 balance is just perfect.

Skinny ASH all the way!

If you like indestructible like FAT GWs, Off Dutys, etc... then by all means go with the FAT Ash.

I much prefer the Skinny ASH with a more practical thickness that is still plenty tough. I might as well be carrying a standard FSH or a HHFSH for nearly the same weight as the FAT ASH.

I prefer the regular (.320") ASH1 with Mags only because of the heft and fullness it provides. It balances and handles beautifully!
I typically prefer a fuller, fatter handle and the CGASH1s are perfect. With the skinny ASH1 stock, even with fat scales it just doesn't compare.

For a narrower edge and finer work, I can see the skinny doing a better job...but, the edge on the CG's can be convexed and feathered out to give the skinny a run for the money IMHO.:D

I bought the Skinny ASH with mag grips and the ASH-1 with standards. The Skinny seems to be a more practical all-around knife, but if you like thicker blades, the ASH-1 is one impressive beast of a knife. It looks like you could pry a locomotive off the tracks with it. :)

Stay sharp,

It probably can do it if it had the length and leverage which it does not have ;)

After mulling over it some more, & taking in all the great advice you men are giving me. I have decided I to also look at a few other designs, in bowie/clip point or spear point. The Hell Raiser looks alright? Although I not sure how all those blood grooves would work batoning & chopping? But there is not doubt it would work great chopping up game, if needed.

Narrowed it down =
1). INFI.
2). 6-7" blade with Bowie/clip point or spear point design.
3). MAGNUM style MICARTA handles. The standards just don't gel for me in this style of blade, nor do I like the G10 on the bigger Busse knives. As far as grip is concerned anyway. Although my FAT GW G10 is superb, but this has different purchase in-hand & use.
Busse G style handle or standard doesn't really worry me ATM, just as long as it's fairly fat in-hand.
4). Thinking .225-.275" thickness, but I see the Skinny ASH-1 is .195". And being INFI, I'm sure it will not be an issue. Although this knife WILL see heavy use(survival at times) when I hit the high country!
If you think .195"(or less) INFI on the Skinny ASH-1 is not up to the task to abuse, please talk up.

Contenders ATM. Skinny ASH-1, LE ASH-1, Jack Hammer & Hell Razor.
I didn't mention the CG ASH-1, as I feel .320" blade thickness is too thick for me. And I'm not sure whether the JH & HR can be sourced with MAGS MICARTA?
Please mention any other Busse I have forgotten about

Thanks lads

PS-I will also say. I MUST take picking this knife seriously, as I'm only going to do this once. I don't want to get it & think it doesn't gel. And because I cannot try before I buy, it's tough at times, & it can become $$$. So feel free to make suggestions within the 6-7" blade frame.
