Skipped ZT, went staight to CRK - Good or bad move?

Since this thread seems to be about folders I’ll add my recent experience. I never even looked at higher end liner locks and frame locks until I bought a Real Steel S571. I liked the blade so much for every day utility (read food prep mostly) it got me hooked. But, because it’s quality control was severely lacking I began to look elsewhere. CRKs, Hinderers, and the raft of offerings from the standard mid-market makers simply did not get my attention.

Within a year I bought a Shirogorov F3, and more recently, a Laconico Keen. Both are keepers.

Meanwhile, CRK developed the Impinda. That made me look twice. Then again. Now on a six-month wait list, I should have it by summer. Aesthetics are important to me and that little slipjoint hit all the right notes. Good design, excellent fit and finish, and of course, functionality.

Aside a handful of SAKs collected over the years, these three will likely be the only folders I will keep.

There are many many others, but like I was with women, I simply needed to settle down. Doesn’t keep me from looking though.

I think you should still try a ZT 0562CF or the new 0562ti, I think you would probably be happy with either and it would fill that flipper spot in your lineup.

You still need an Opinel, every knife enthusiest needs to experience one in my opinion. They have great blade geometry so it has a will deserved reputation as one of the best slicers.

As long as you have a Spyderco, it's a good choice!
I know right? :D Reeve’s knives never did anything for me and I giggle a little when people tell me they’re better “because of the tolerances!” LOL...K But we all like different things. OP, maybe try diamond stones because M4 really is pretty nice. Glad you’re happy either way.

If denying oneself a CRK until they've experienced the broad spectrum of knife ownership is how it's supposed to be done, then I guess I'm doing it all wrong. It only took five knives before I drank the Kool-Aid and put a Large Sebenza 21 in layaway last Saturday.

I recently got into knives after several decades of collecting/buying/selling firearms. Don't get me wrong, I still hunt and shoot on a regular basis but my collection is pretty much where I want it to be. Knives just seemed like a natural extension from that and I've learned to appreciate them in the same way I appreciate either a Sako rifle or a Colt revolver.

I don't think there's anything necessarily 'wrong' in skipping past other, less prestigious knives and going straight for the upper tier but, I think to do so is to miss-out on a lot of great knives. That would never do for a geek like me.
