Skipping Over Limited Edition, Collectibles, etc.

I've had this Bob Cargill Cripple Creek in my pocket for the last two days. I'm sure I'll switch to something different before too long but for now it's my EDC.

So far I've used the Sheepsfoot blade to open 3 boxes and the Clip blade to cut shrink wrap off of several pallets of product. Nothing drastic but I can't say it's in mint condition anymore.

Maybe my using it will make the other 49 more collectable.:D

That's a nice looking knife Rick. It's a unique pattern, with great color to the stag, an always appealing equal end and it has broad blades that nestle in the frame nicely. Really an appealing knife to look at.

Thank you, Paul.

At the knife show where I bought it, I handled it about 20 minutes after I arrived. I didn't buy it then because I wanted to make sure there wasn't something else I wanted more. Thank goodness it was still there when I went back.

I typically shy away from collectible models simply because I do not like the prices they command. If the knife is discontinued or collectible and the price is not a barrier for me, then I have much less apprehension in using it. Now if said knife happens to jump significantly in value, I may also sell it to acquire items I deem to be a better value. I do have a few discontinued modern folders that I don't carry much for fear of value reduction. But I still like them enough to resist selling them.

I get the "collect users" mindset because I want to try too many things to have money tied up in knives that never get used. Although I get much enjoyment from carrying and using them. Many get plenty of enjoyment out of just owning and viewing their knives. I like to prioritize my purchases to things that will get some action, and if I feel the value is above what I am comfortable carrying and using, I will move that equity on to other knives.

It did take me years to finally put some patina on this numbered Snakewood Toothpick since it is a numbered knife. I realized that the pattern itself wasn't that popular and I had little motivation to sell it. Plus Snakewood is one of my favorites, so I'd have to overpay for another GEC Snakewood anyway...
