Italian switches-I've heard a lot of good things about them, and I have heard a lot of bad things about the quality. Anyone to offer an opinion?

I've owned alot of them in the past, some were really nice for the money.I've probably owned about about 40 of them over different periods in my past. The problem is they get their knives from various makers and the different sizes, handle materials, fit and finish, quality can vary significantly.Sometimes I would notice alot of machining or tool marks that were just left as an eyesore instead of finishing them nicely. Then of course, the prices are pretty cheap, but usually reflects in the product.I've had alot of them come, not even in working order,QC is non-exsistant.I had to many times spend an hour on a knife getting it cleaned and lubed, before it would even snap and lock open.I also had them send me replacements twice and both times the knives were worse than the ones to be replaced.I used to be a poster in the forum there, and suggested in post and e-mails that they would get better interst if they offered higher quality knives with good fit & finish and better QC.It falls on deaf ears.I would suggest going to Theknifeshop website look for some german made stuff like Hubertus,if your interested in fit and finish and the knife working perfect right out of the box.

SKM/AB and F Beltrame are the best Itallian switchblade makers, the fit and finish was a little better on the F beltrame but over all those are the finest quality Itallians you can get now.Unless you find a Latama from the 1950's for a grand or more

Skm could have put my order in a bottle and set sail and it would have got here faster. When it did arrive the quality was nothing to write home about.

Sounds like your slow boat was due to how you had it shipped. Go with Beltrame the next time.

The guys who hang out in the Automatic forum should be able to help you out -- I'll move this thread there (from TGBU).
