OK just recieved my new SBT this week. I like everything about it but I am curious as to options for attaching the sheath to a belt. I have a few ideas ranging from simple loops to a bandolier style carry. How are other carrying theirs? Pics would greatly be appreciated. Here is a pic of the new blade :D

Sorry no pic, but I used to have one and I carried it on a paracord baldric. Great knife! Sigh, one of my regrets...

OK my solution was pretty basic. I didn't want to alter the original sheath in any way so this one just laces up the front and ties through the original holes.

It rides real nice.

I took these photos before the leather was final trimmed and finished with my own beeswax mixture to match the original sheath. These ties were only temporary. I replaced them with leather. Once the leather ties have been waxed they get very hard and won't loosen. Mac

What a great solution! Really cool!!

I've got one of those blades on my wish list once I scrape together some mad money.

Pict, very cool idea, I'd like to see the finished project. I'm waiting for my SBT, but still have months to go. I had "passed" on the sheath when I placed my order, but your concept has me thinking about that :-) Nice job. Curious about where in Pennsy you relocated to.

I recently bought one second hand on here and it came with two parts to the sheath. It has the "normal" piece and it has a belt attachment. They are attached by two lengths of leather extending down into the sheath and through the 2 (I think) holes. I will have to try to get a pic for you. I dopn't know how to post here but maybe can send via email so you can understand what I'm trying to explain. A picture is worth a thousand words so I'll see what I can do.

BTW, I found the handle just a tad too short for me and have one on order with a longer handle. I'll ket this one go to a new home then. I like the overall design. :D

I to passed on the sheath, not sure that I would like it..I ended up getting one, and man, its really cool! My SBT snapped into the sheath like kydex!

In the tropics neck carry doesn't work with leather sheaths and heavy knives. I prefer it on my belt down there. I've actually been thinking of removing it so I can neck carry up here. Neck carry works well with heavy winter clothes.

Here it is finished with my proprietary beeswax mixture. I say proprietary because even I don't know what's in it anymore. Mac

First, congratulations as the new owner of a Skookum. Wonderful knife, IMO.

I made my own cross-draw sheath for the Skookum. However, not wanting to ditch the nice neck sheath that came with the knife, I simply made a heavy, traditional dangler loop for the sheath out of matching leather. The dangler sheath is the only style I will wear when backpacking.

Fig. 14 seems to be a decent way to do the dangler loops. My sheath has seen a lot of rough trail time, a few wilderness camping trips, etc., without having any issues with the loop design. Some folks really like the dangler loops, others do not. I find that if the Scandinavians have been doing it for centuries, I have learned to pay attention. Pict did a real fine job on his modification too. If I didn't have a leather shop, I would probably give that design a try also.

Interesting photo of early stage development of Mors Skookum knife.

Bill I did the one Dave Costin is talking about. It's attached the same way Rod attaches the original but is a dangler belt loop. I have made this change on the two skookum I have had. It's very simple, only requires two holes on the belt loop, and is very traditional scandi. Let me know if ya want details and I'll hook ya up!

I had JRE make a sheath for mine. Love it!

Me too. The neck sheath is totally cool but I had a lot of trouble with sweat corroding the butt cap and it getting in the way when I filtered water or started a fire or anything else in warm weather. Also it fits tight in the neck sheath and I like a knife that sets deep in a sheath so it's hard to fallout, but that is not tight so I can put it in and take it out w/ 1 hand.

I carry mine baldric style.
If you notice the tip of the sheath, it has a drain hole. You can feed paracord thru the sheath, knot the end then pull the knot back down until it wedges in the tip part of sheath. You can then tie it off/ attach it to your baldric strap to keep it on a certain angle. Mine being a crossdraw angle.

I don't think all these sheaths are the same length so some might have that knot cut by the knife when inserted. Mine clears it though.
