I've been admiring the Skookum Bush Tool knives that some of you own and took a chance to see if Rod was accepting orders. He emailed me back and did indeed add me to his list so sometime next year I'll have my very own. The wait is considerable, but I'm hoping that I'll forget and have a very nice surprise when it's done.:)

Probably not. I'll agonize every month I wait.:o

I've read some very fine reviews about this knife here and elsewhere but I'd love to hear some of your impressions again. Pics in action would also be appreciated.

Oh, and mine will be made in A2 steel with natural canvas micarta.

I've got knives in O1, 1095, CPM3V, D2 and various stainless steels, so I thought I'd give A2 a try. Bark River uses a lot of it and they get good reviews for their steel so it should be worth a try.

I hope you have better luck on your delivery than I have had. I ordered one last June with the expected delivery this April, now I'm told it will be more likely in August...maybe. A more disturbing issue was mentioned in one of the British forums by a customer who found out his order was one of those bumped off schedule for more "special" customers...he cancelled his orders.

Well thats awesome...that means your closer to getting your knife! Sounds like a bunch of whining to me:thumbdn:. I ordered my SBT right after they hit there first magazine rack, and I still waited about a year...His design is good enough to merit a back order..thats why you want one..thats just the way it is.
To the OP, I have an A2 with BLM slabs..I like it alot, sharp, good ergoes, really...if I was a more practical man..this would have been the last small knife I bought..but I am a collecter, so the beat goes on. Your wait will be over soon, and you will be glad you ordered it.

I like mine. I've had it 3? Years?? Anyway I got one when the wait time was 5 weeks.

I've used it a lot. I want to do a long term review on it soon.

I need to just break down and put one on order, I'm sick of looking at jacked up prices in the secondary market.

I can say, however, that between the SBT and the Brian Andrews, it was the Andrews that really won out. Perfect. I'll have to send you that one to play with sometime.

Sounds like a good idea for a passaround! I've yetto handle a skookum or a brian andrews, but i'm honestly more interested I brians. What's brians wait like?

I think the SBT looks a fine knife and should live up to your expectations but if I'm honest I'd sooner have one of Brian Andrews if I were after that style of knife !

Rod is an outstanding knifemaker who is honest man. Second hand stories such as from others accross the big pond should be ignored.
The Skookum is an outstanding knife for it's intended purpose. Large paws will find it comfy. Detail work is easy with the design. It's rock solid in design. The plate on the back of the handle is very useful and genious! Great sheath too.

i bought one early and it indeed has lived up to its reputation, rod worked hard on the order and got it to me on time.

i would not engage in disseminating information about someone unless i know for certain what the deal was, there are always two sides to every story. there are some cutomers you cant please, and some demands you cant meet.

this guy is a one man shop, he has done everything that i have asked of him, his reputation is sterling as far as i am concerned. a one man shop can only turn out so much quality product per day, he has been blessed by a very popular product , i am sure he is working as fast as possible to fill his order book.

all the guys and girls i know that have dealt with him have had nothing but good things to say about him.

his knife is a great tool, and he is an honest craftsman and this is from my personal dealings with the man.

Just oredered one from Rod, he was very quick in responding and said it would take 10 to 12 months. To me its worth the wait, I can use the time to get my skills up to par.

Great stuff fellas. Thanks for the insight. I know it's a bit expensive, but I'm not all that concerned about that. Like I said before, I'll just do what I can to not dwell on an arrival date. I've got nothting to lose since I haven't paid any kind of deposit. I know that if I didn't order it, I'd have this nagging feeling in the back of my mind and another year would go by before I bit the bullet and ordered one for myself.

Hollowdweller, I'm looking forward to reading about your long term review. I'd bet that others would be interested as well. Thanks.

It seems like a really nice knife but I don't think I could wait a year for it. I just think there are equal knives out there that have shorter wait times. I'm on Koster's bandwagon for the 2009 bushcrafter and waiting just a couple months is killing me.:o

I'm waiting for a Koster Bushmaster myself and it has been on my mind lately since they should be in Dan's shop sometime soon for their final steps. I'm hanging in there. Maybe early next year I'll start itching for my Bush Tool to arrive. For now I've got other knives to keep me busy. Wish me luck anyway.:)
