Of all the bushcraft knives I see, the Skookum Bush Tool is in such high demand? Why is this? What is so special about this knife?

Hype. It is a great knife, but nothing any other bushy knife can do. Another word, prestige. Also supply might play into this combined with hype/status.

Just like any Busse. Or any other small knife over $200. And don't forget some people "just have to have it"... At least to fondle and them pass on.

Oh, and the name is cool. :)

I have a copy made by another custom maker from England, useabilty of design may be the answer....I have too many blades to count but that one is the one in my bug out bag...

The maker really nailed the perfect storm with the SBT. It carves wood like a Mora, but yet is robust enough to be failure proof when used hard, but wisely. I think Mors Kochanski sums it up when he says "it's a pry bar that work wood really, really well", because that is exactly what it is.

Then combine the top shelf raw materials used, superb heat treat, attention to details in both knife and sheath; which are flawless btw. You get a great package for a reasonable price. Yes people complain about the wait, but what really great customs and even production knives is there not a wait time for?

Hype? I guess, if that's what you want to call it. But I look at the origins of it, who it's endorsed by, all the happy and excited USERS etc. That alone speaks for itself.

Koster bush knife... Great materials, great knife, etc... LESS CASHOLA AND LESS WAIT.

OTM Knives, same, same...

There's a few others but I haven't personally used them.

I still say it's the cool name. :)

It's basically made to Mors Kochanski's specs.

Even though a bushcraft knife is a fairly specific style the SBT is distinctive. Also availible in steels other than 1095/O1 which the majority of bushcraft knives are offered in.

Also hype.

To be clear, I want one. I have never handled one, but after I have met some life goals and have the spare cash I plan to get one.

Mors Kochanski input, quality minded maker, quality knife - the reasons are legion.

I looked at the SBT and other knives, when I put down on paper what I wanted in a 'Bushcraft-type' knife.

On the SBT I liked the heavy pommel, but wanted a different shape to the blade (middle)

I could not have said it better myself.

Bladescout, I have told you this before, but I need to say it again, that knife is outstanding.
Thank you.
Much appreciated.
Im very happy with the knife. Some knives just come out right and work as the owner intended. This is one of them. It might not work for others, but it works for me.

It's a great blade. I love mine. But really nowdays there's so many outstanding scandi bushcraft knives available it's hard to understand why the SBT is still so backed up order wise.

Do think the multiple lash points, butt cap and really nice sheath set it apart but functionally you can get something like it w/o the wait.

....There is one on the exchange.. for ONLY $425... where did this price come from... I guess this thread could be part of the reason.. That and the recent selling of them...but $425..

Someone here please explain this to me! Thanks.

Supply vs demand, it's no mystery, it's what makes the world go round! If someone doesn't want to wait a couple years for one, then that price may seem like a bargain.

My eldest son nicknamed my 3V SBT, "the light saber" for the way that it cuts things so easily. Only had to wait eleven months for mine.:D

A couple years ago I put my name on the list... but sometimes I wonder if they are still being made? I have not heard of any "new" ones coming to bear... am I wrong? I just hope one day I will get and email or call and it will be ready. Bladescout - is that one above one that you made?

The answer, which is Biblical in Bushcraft proportion: Mors said so. If Mors said wear Huggies in the woods, lemmings would be buying diapers by the truckload. Like I could care what the old geez thinks.
I just want a decent blade. Good or not, I have plenty of great blades I can have now, from great makers, that would do everything the Skookum would do. It's just a knife.

Best answerer I ever heard. It's so true! I had that knife because It was so sought after. Once I had it, I didn't care for it at all. Too small for my needs. Don't get me wrong it a wonderful blade that was sharp as a laser. But it was the end all to be all. Everyone will have different favorites.
