Damn! I never thought the bids would go so high, I guess the long wait for one is worth spending the extra dough. I myself would rather pickup a gossman or koster, and maybe spend the extra on a golok or ksf machete.

must not have the patience to wait for one, for less???

I second your thoughts. A Gossman or Koster would beat the Skookum in my eyes.

I just recieved this knife from bushcraftnorthwest. I must admit this is one of my favorite blades. I really like the blade's geometry very similar to that of the skookum and at a much more attractive price. I will try and take more pics and do a mini review when i get a chance.

Patience went out of style a long time ago. For many, it's about instant self-gratification with little to no wait or fuss. As for price, the price of that knife will hardly be noticed by the credit card company when they have to write off as a loss a whole lot more that the winning bidder owes them because he just declared bankruptcy. Sad, but not so uncommon anymore.

I'm patient but on the other hand I just got a custom recently I'm gonna do a review on later and it cost $250 and while it's a nice blade not near as much work went into it as went into the Skookum.

Maybe the bids wouldnt get so high if guys like you didnt anounce it to everyone...thanks alot......

just kidding...:p

That'd be much appreciated, I've been interested in hearing more reports about that knife.

Its worth whatever someone will pay..that is the golden rule....it is easy to forget that when we cant afford to out bit the jerk making the rules.
I would argue that we pay much more for things that dont even come close in usefulness...our homes are overpriced..and our cars. Most things that we buy weekly are overpriced..but we buy them so often..that we dont notice.

I'm mostly a "value" guy; not too much into brands or appearances. That knife's nice, but there's plenty of good options that cost a lot less.

thread killa...

It's $200 and a 12 month wait to get one made... SO some guy thought it was worth an extra $50 to be able to use it this summer instead of waiting until next. What's the big deal?

12 months? I know someone who has been waiting about 17 months, and counting.

The older you get, the more patient you get. Most worthwhile things and lessons in life don't come in an instant soup package. The short wait for the Skookum is worth it, if you like the design and, desire the sort of quality and attention to detail that goes in to the Skookum. Too, Rod is a super guy to do business with.

I have many knives that cost me several times the amount of the Skookum, waited much longer for them, and are not nearly as well-made and useful. :)

I guess I must be and old man on the inside then - 17yrs old and have a Skookum in waiting. Still have a year to wait though, best to just put an order and not worry about it - stay sane with a couple of "necessary" gear buys and you'll do fine.

True but that is your opinion, you may hate this design but for all you know theres someone out there who will be willing to wait as long as it takes and to pay hundreds for it.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, just like art - went to a gallery with my girlfriend and I swear to god some of them had a striking resemblance to a bad day at the local child care's finger painting session. Yet some went up to a million dollars in bidding.

Don't misquote me - I like the design just fine. I just don't see any functional difference between this tool and many others of similar design. And those others are available at lower prices, and shorter wait lists.

If you want to think of it as art, that's a different story. It's your choice, and your wallet.
