Just ordered a blank from them today. Should be here in a few weeks.

Any recommendations on what to do for a handle? I'm thinking hemp wrap with leather slabs as backing, but if there is any other ideas you all have let me know.

The couple I ordered shipped really fast, only about a week. (I'm in NKY, so I expect yours should arrive similarly fast, but as a head's up, someone will need to sign for it.)

Would like to see what you come up with. I thought about grabbing a blank, but just went with the standard model.

If you go with hemp, paracord, or similar, you could look at encasing it in resin similar to Uddo's "instant micarta" work. He has a lot of videos on youtube.

I wanted the standard model, but when I looked at the website they were unavailable and I'm not always patient when it comes to my knives I want. And this way I can sorta personalize it.

I have heard the balance of the blade is what makes it so great so I don't want to add too much weight to the handle and make it heavy.

I've done a few hemp wraps before on blanks so the paracord may not be a bad route to go with

Where abouts in nky are you? I'm always looking for new knife friends to hike and chat with

The weight distribution is nice on the Skrama. With the lighter tang and thin geometry it really chops like a bigger blade. Just guessing, but I don't think whatever handle you add is going to effect the balance much. Anything you put on there is still going to be a lot lighter than steel :)

I'm really not sure what else you could do other than a wrap for the handle unless you were able to drill some holes for pins and maybe do an enclosed tang with slab micarta or something, but that's beyond anything I've tried. I mentioned a wrap with resin/epoxy since that should make it weatherproof and depending on how you do it, could help you add some additional contouring and allow the handle to dampen shocks to a greater extent. Again, not anything I've tried personally, but I remembered watching some of Uddo's videos a couple of years ago and it seemed like something that might work on this.

Don't be afraid to anneal the tang with a torch. It actually increase shock absorption and blade durability when you do so, and then you can drill the tang for a rivet or two. Would be fun to see one done with a Japanese-inspired tsuka style construction.

I'll have to check those videos out and see what he does

Hmmm. That could be an option as well. I've never tried anything like that so I'll have to look into the process

The tsuka idea would be great as well. I think it would give a unique look to the knife

Finally got around to wrapping this one up.

Feels great but may do one more pass on the handle to give a bit more width. Gonna take out out next weekend and fool around and see how it works.

The Skrama is beautiful - If I wasnt already covered on the chopper front, Id have gotten one of those.

Nice wrap.

Another less good looking but functional method, is paracord with bicycle inner tube covering the cord.

Thank you. I'm hoping it's as comfy using it as it is just holding.

I have another blade I'm in the process of making that I may use the cord on.

I'll let all k ow how it performs next weekend at the gorge
