I had a nice little pile of Skunk Junk going...
Had it on the book case that goes with the desk we bought when my wife was working on her masters...
The first real piece of furniture we have ever bought.
The price was SICK...

This little crawdad ate the freaking finish off!!!:mad:
The Wife actually teared up...
Now I must fix it or DIE.....
Any Hogs out there work with wood?

:eek::eek:

I want to laugh and make a joke, but I'm sure it's very inappropriate right now. Hope you can get that fixed up before the missus tracks down Stinky.

Whoops!

Very nice crawfish patina you have there. You know what's in now? Painted furniture. :p

holy smokes.
ok heres the low down.
i refinish antique clock cases for my father just to help around the house and ive gotten pretty decent at making them come up looking new.
First it looks to me like its a redish finish right??
Second are there indentations into the finish from the crawdad on there?( i cant really tell from the picture

OMG! I am laughing and crying at the same time. I am sure one of knows how to deal with this. There are lots of stains you can get, even the quick patch type in a tube, to fix this. You just have to match it.

Holy crap!!

I laughed outloud at first. Then realized my wife would have done the same thing and I would feel equally as bad as you. Dang...

It is definately fixable bro. It may just be a matter of sanding that section smooth and then batching the stain/varnish. What is the approx area of the top of the desk?

you wont need to sand or smooth it out. you just hit it with the marker and it will blend the color back.
having a wet paper towel on hand doesnt hurt either if the color doesnt match.

That's pretty cool, people go to great lengths to distress their fine furniture, VTW does something similar for a living.

Okay, I'm not being helpful and you're in deep.

Matching the stain is going to be the issue, unless you refinish the whole surface. Looks like all the finish is gone to bare wood. You'll probably need to contact the mfr to find the stain and finish they used.

or

Cover it with a coaster.

Those crawdads will eat holes in plastic tackle boxes.

sixstrings101 has got it right with the markers. But, if this doesn't work to your wifes satisfaction, email me. I've made a living with woodworking a good portion of my life and I am a furnituremaker as well, so I may be able to help if the initial idea doesn't pan out.

I had a Chem Light do that to my first real table....that crap is supposed to be safe, but ate the finish off my table. There was a chem stick shape on my table, I agree, gives it character and is a conversation piece.

Yep, all those wiggly plastic things are filled with evil chemicals called "phthalate plasticisers" that will melt plastic, dissolve varnish, and shrivel your testes. That's why they have been banned in San Francisco.

Oh wait.......it wouldn't matter.......never mind....
