My blade rocks back and forth a bit when the Skyline is closed which is bugging the hell out of me. There doesn't seem to be any tension to lock the blade tight. I posted this problem in another thread and it doesn't happen to Flashpoint's Skyline.

Would you guys try to fix yourselves or would you send back to Kershaw if it happened to you?

free radical

to clarify the rock you are experiancing is it in the direction of closed to open or front handle to back handle?

Hi tommie

There's small play closed to open. When I shake the knife back and forth it makes a metallic rattle sound.

If you hold the knife in the closed position, in a closed grip, does it still rattle?

If I put my knife in my hand in with the blade in the closed position, the knife does not rattle.

The rattle comes from some play from the blade moving a bit back and forth because it has not tension pushing it in against the handle.

The first pic shows the blade butt against the the handle in the closed position

The second pic shows how much it is allowed to move before there's any tension. hope that makes any sense.

Mine is the exact same as Free Radical's. However, I don't believe it's any kind of defect. Maybe it's part of the whole flipper design?

Not sure if this only happens with the damascus or not but my standard blade is solid when closed. The only real issue I had with mine was that the liner would scrape the blade when closing it. I adjusted (bent) the liner lock a bit and this kept it out of the way when closing. Otherwise it has been a fantastic little knife.

i still haven't gotten mine yet, still in the holiday mail, but who's recommended to regrind it to a tanto blade for me?

This is the perfect knife for a tanto blade! Would love to see pictures when it is done.

Freeradical,

The issue you are experiencing can be caused by the ball baring detent location. On our flipper knives we try to put the detent right on the edge of the fully closed position however just a half a thou off and it can cause the type of movment you are experiancing. If your flipping performance is compromised please send the knife on for warrantee.

Personally Freeradical, what you are experiencing is not a defect, and IMO falls well within our tolerances. There still should not be any issues flipping the knife without wrist flick. I'd hang with it a while.

i just got mine in the mail, i have the same movement. seems normal and doesn't bother me too much.

the Ebay Seller sent me a plain Skyline instead of the dam blade i paid for! but i've contacted him and he gave me a few very sweet options i can't refuse. i might just keep this plain one, i'm going to mod the crap outta it anyways.

Even my JYD II has a tiny bit of vertical play when closed, I'm not worried about it...the knife functions flawlessly. Finally flipped the clip on it...lovin it. Who woulda thunk the steel on a pocket clip is so tough. I have a new found respect for STRs work.
