Can't see up that far ...Some species of bamboo can grow 4cm per hour. I'm just curious how much taller this stuff is since this thread started.
Holy sheet, that looks like the same species I have that was posted in the clip. That is massive tho, had no idea it got that big. Can't see up that far ...

I bought a couple of those at Walmart on fall closeout - about $7 each. Got a couple on a visit to Thailand and Vietnam in Sept/Oct (see link). The old, rusty billhook was free. Swiped it from my sis-in-law who is a recycler/junk dealer. Her sons were pounding it through junk with a hammer! Needs some TLC but has a lot of life left in it.Nice.
I have a Fiskars two handed bill hook thing, far from traditional but extremely fit for purpose.
Some of the shoots are incredibly tall and grow like wild fire. I saw some huge, tall ones in Thailand back in 1978., up in the mountains.Holy sheet, that looks like the same species I have that was posted in the clip. That is massive tho, had no idea it got that big.
Yeah, now just imagine cutting that down with any sort of "knife". You'd need at least an axe and preferably an electric "Sawzall" to get at it. No room to swing in clump bamboo unless you get up high. Check out these shoots that are only a few days old. The short ones are the best for eating.Holy sheet, that looks like the same species I have that was posted in the clip. That is massive tho, had no idea it got that big.

Our house in Thailand has a patch or two of clump bamboo. Very hard to cut a piece close to the ground.

Yah they’re great. I use shoots when I make curry. They add texture and nutrients while having a neutral flavor.People really eat them?
I guess he spotted the rolling donut…
No, that's tactical. Strategic would be carpet-bombing both of them.![]()
Fun fact, it’s a her/sheI guess he spotted the rolling donut…
Don't hack that stuff up. Start your own bicycle company. You're sitting on a gold mine! Bamboo: nature's carbon fiber.

One stalk will do a bunch of knives so I am not too worried about it.
I think a Coconut does all this by itself.bamboo plants + coconut trees + hemp = all basic human survival needs met - food, hydration, shelter, medicine, clothing, entertainment.
I think a Coconut does all this by itself.
Food- eat the flesh of the coconut
Hydration- drink the coconut water
Shelter- put half a coconut shell on your head
Medicine- whack yourself in the head with a coconut for anesthesia.
Clothing- … well we’ve all see the ladies in coconuts.
Entertainment- whacking someone else in the head with a coconut,
I watched that entire video. Somewhat hilarious. I loved it when he said it gave him nice thin slices of apple.
Because I'm not going to live long enough to see any of it at the rate this is progressing and the thought of him trying to cut through large bamboo with a paring knife makes me happy. Why do you guys keep suggesting "cheap" knives that are not supersteel?
Houla has definitely implied he will be testing higher end knives, because the rest of us "chicken shit geeks" are too scared to.
