Sleep and survival.

Some of you guys need to try disposable earplugs. It can be a safety issue, but balanced against not getting any sleep, I'd say it's worth a try.

I like a cup of quality chamomile tea to knock me out.

A warning on the use of alcohol to get to sleep--alcohol inhibits REM sleep, so while you may be asleep you are in fact getting very little rest. Hence why you often feel tired when you wake up the morning after a long make-out session with the bottle. ;)

I never slept much at all. As I got older I slept even less. I got down to sleeping less that two hours out of 24 and finally about a year ago I had to go to sleeping pills. Not being able to sleep is a real curse, I would get so tired that I could hardly set up. I would try to sleep but in 10 minutes I would be wide awake. I would lay in bed for hours watching the wife sleep like Mrs Van Winkle and about go nuts. The pill I take makes you drowsy but lacks the additive to keep you asleep but it seems to do the trick because once I sleep for a couple hours, I can usually dose off again. It is like a new world and I wish I would have done it years ago.

Another trick that I often use when I have a hard time sleeping is to do pushups and situps until you're too physically tired not to sleep. Works like a charm and it helps get you ripped! :D

Pretend you're a fat kid.

...now come up with some ideas. lol

I average 3-5hrs sleep a night..... but can fall asleep in less than a minute when I need to. In cold training.... we work all night and sleep during the day in little cat naps... I probably get more sleep when I'm in the woods than at home. Having young children doesn't help..... lol.

If you are stressed out and can't sleep try this: visualize a clean blackboard, visualize writing numbers starting with the number 100 and then visualize erasing the number and writing 99; continue counting backwards all the way to zero. It takes practice, but it is one way to help clear the mind and put yourself to sleep.

I actually know a plethora of different relaxation techniques, from visualizing a green color to controlling your breathing.
Breath in for four counts, hold for two, out for five, hold for three. Repeate ad infinitum.
Visualize a dark calm ocean in your mind, when a thought arises, see it as a drop falling from the sky into the ocean. The drop creates ripples, but the ocean is vast, and is quickly calm and crystalline again.
Repeating certain phrases in your mind, over and over. A prayer, a motto, mantra, whatever.

Alas, none works for me at the moment.
Thankfully i do get some sleep in the daytime.

As for my bed, it`s heaven. The best bed i`ve had all my life, so yah, no complaints there.

Herbal remedies: Valerian (Valeriana Officinalis) is pretty good. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valerian_(herb)

Another night of insomniac ramblings. *laughs*
