Sleeping bag and pad, how to carry it?

Thanks for all of the advice. I think carrying the tent will probably be the best course of action for me. The rest of my gear takes up little space and it seems I would have to get a huge bag to accommodate the tent on the inside. Eventually I would like one of those really compact pads, but as of now they are a luxury item. The 55 should give me plenty of room for my sleeping bag (Eureka Casper), food and any other gear. My big bulky pad can ride on the outside.

I love trying to be as much of a minimalist as possible, but I have a hard time camping without a tent. Sort of a sense of security, being sealed in. I know that may be blasphemy around here, but I don't care. Haha.

Thanks again.

Thank you, sir. I'll give the Golite line-up a look. My only concern with the ULA packs is that they're all higher capacity than either of my other packs (not factoring in the ability to attach things to the frame of my external frame pack) and I'm afraid I'll be tempted to fill that extra space with unnecessary gear. :o I am hoping to take a couple of more extended trips this summer though, and the extra space may be nice when I start packing for a week instead of a weekend.

Also. . . Good point to the OP about carrying the sleeping bag on the outside of the pack.

if you're looking for something smaller than the Ohm, check out the MLD Burn- like a deluxe Ion :) they also make a "super" burn w/ heavier denier material

Looking back at this post, I think the idea of keeping your sleeping bag in a waterproof bag is really important. I got mine wet once during a canoe trip and it was a nightmare. Fortunately we set up camp early enough to dry it out near the fire. I'll never let that happen again.

Apologies, as it seems I hijacked the thread with my question.
