Sleeping bags?

Getting ready to do a little tent camping with my Wife, as soon as the mosquitos die off. Thinking about buying one of those huge double size sleeping bags, but am wondering if it might be better to simply buy 2 and zip them together. Any recommendations? Not looking to spend a whole lot of money, and do not want down. Quallofil, Polarguard, that kind of stuff is what I want. Anyone have access to dealer pricing, and want to help out a forumite? ;) :)

Cabela's has some good bags for reasonable prices that are compatible-right and left handed so that they zip together well.

One big bag or two zipped together, you will probably appeciate a blanket to fill in so warmth does not escape past your shoulders. I'd go with two bags w/ matching zippers for more flexibility. In a rectangular pattern (less efficient) 5 lbs of Quallofill or the like should be good for anyone down to 5 above. Stay warm watching the stars.

Some companies like SnugPak make a centerpiece adapter that enables you to zip 2 mummy bags together to make one big bag. It's a neat idea. I own a SnugPak Sleeper 2+ and it is without a doubt the best bag for the money period. It weighs 3.77 pounds and compresses to the size of a 6 pack. It offers everything found in bags costing twice as much.

They are for sale at www.actiongear.com

Few quick questions to narrow the hunt parameters:
- How much money per bag is acceptable?
- Will they be used for car camping or backpacking/canoe camping?
- What is the lowest temperature they have to handle?

If cost is the limiting factor, there are pretty cheap dacron-filled sleeping bags at Walmart/K-Mart/Target type stores. You could get three or four of them for about $100. I've also used $20 el-cheapo sleeping bags for "sleeping in the car" bags with decent luck. Whether such cheap bags will work for you depends on your comfort level.

The Sportsman's Guide is another place that seems to have very cheap prices. I've never personally dealt with them, but some of their stuff is semi-brand-name stuff. Some other looks like imported inventory reduction P.O.S. IMHO shop carefully there.

My personal bag is a Wiggy's Super Light (rated to 0 degree F, 4 lbs total weight) with his Lamilite insulation. Bombproof bag for about $165. If you get two of his bags, I think most will zip together. Excellent customer service.

Remember, if you've got two bodies inside the bag(s) there's a cumulative sharing of heat. That means your bag doesn't have to be as insulative to remain comfortable as when you're sleeping alone in the bag at the same air temperature.

Looking for 0 degree bags. Cold weather bag mainly. Like I said, I do not want goose down. Cost? I would probably want to spend no more than $150 for the whole deal. I do not want super cheapies though.

One other thing; I am 6'6", so I need oversize bags.

Sportsman's Guide is a good company, with good prices, but they really get you on 'shipping and handling'.

I would go with two sleeping bags that can be zipped together, just so one at a time could be used in the future. Guess you have to think about how often you and your wife would go camping, vs going by yourself, as to whether the double bag would be worth it.
Then again, why couldn't you use the double bag by yourself, too? More room...
