Well I finally Hiked Sleeping giant here in Ct. The trails were beautiful... I think. You see, I hiked with a friend who is in way better shape than me. She enjoys being outdoors, but speed walks the trail and doesn't stop. I never hiked with her before and I didn't want her to show me up, so I did what I could to keep up. We took a very direct steep route up and man, I thought I was going to die:o I really need to quit smoking. I have done long hikes before, but at a much slower pace. Oh well when we got to the top the vistas were worth the lung I think I lost.

I can't wait to go back, and do it at my pace, where I can stop and enjoy the nature, instead of blowing right by it.

Beautiful pics :D What's the elevation there?

My dog is like you're friend, he kicks my butt up the mountain every time.

Nice - thats what the camera is for. You pretend you are taking a shot but you are really just taking a rest.....

Yeah I tried that, but then she was about 50 yards ahead of me, and I couldn't hold the camera steady for a good shot.:o

I have some, but she doesn't want her pic online.

Sorry.

Man, I haven't been there since the seventies. Rog (my father) took me when we still lived in Milford Ct. Thanks for bringing back some memories. :)

What exit on the Merritt is it and do you think it would be a good hike for a 10 year old girl (my niece)?

Exit 61

There is a wide clear trail going up to the tower at the top, not steep. My friend took her 8 year old boy a few times on that trail. Should be no problem:thumbup:

Tony,

Sleeping Giant is one of my favorite hikes in CT. It has some surprisingly tough trails!

Great pics.

Tony, nice pics, looked like a great day to be out. My experience with power walkers and hiking/enjoying nature was similar to yours...I think the two are somewhat incompatible unfortunately.

I ran into a guy on the AT in Pennsy...I asked him about a scenic overlook that was nearby...he said, "I don't have time for any of the scenic stuff, got to make my mileage". What a shame, the view was spectacular! At least you guys enjoyed some of the views from the top :-)

Brian you aint kidding.

Stickman- I understand the work out theory of it, but it's just not my thing.

I like to look at the little things on the way. I love how the trees change from hardwood to evergreen at different levels of the mountain. I like checking out plants, animals, etc. A nice slow pace is what I enjoy the most.

Good stuff . I am going to see when I can get her up there, if you and your daughter would like to join us, let me know and we'll set a date.

Would love to, I have strange days off though. Tuesdays and Thursdays. I work weekends, But the good thing is I see less people out and about.

If those days work for you, I am happy to be in.

I'll have to check when her next Tuesday and or Thursday off will be.
