I've always thought the long spear like tool/file was the cause of the nickname because the resemblance of a lobster tail...

Sometime back, I looked over the knives I've gathered to myself and discovered that the sleeveboard pattern is a favorite among favorites.

I didn't set out to find sleeveboards (I had never even heard the descriptive, at first), but it seems they like to find me.

(My examples sport more 'robust' figures than most already seen in this thread. ;))

I have a lot of Sleeveboard Penknives, simply because it was a very common Sheffield pattern (and I also buy a lot of penknives ;) ) :thumbup:
