Slight off topic: Storing my collection: Traditional of course

Very nice. Jeff! There were several of those cases that I would have liked to own. Nice family of #74's too!

Thanks Rick, it was the guy right in front of the concession stand, you couldn't miss him.

Looks great Alan. You might consider cork for lining. Fabrics will hold moisture. Great project!

Here is the beautiful new cherry wood display case that I just picked up last weekend at the St. Louis knife show, where I met Railsplitter Rick T. and his wife Renee. I have 6-7 of these cases now, in cherry, oak, walnut, and they work well to show the knives with little to no wear. Shown here are my whole family of GEC #74 pattern knives.

Jeff. I think I've seen those. They are nice. Glass top?

Another great suggestion from this group. I just want something that prevents the knives from sliding around on the wood bottom and possibly marking. Actually cloth would be hard to work with. Cork is a potential solution if I can get it thin enough. Thanks..

The cork can be ordered in sheets of various thickness. Often used as gasket material in many industrial applications. Very easy to find thin sheets of roughly 1/16" thick. That should work well.

Thanks Bob. I think I have found it on line. 1.75mm which translates to about 1/16" thick cork sheets. Anything thicker than that would interfere with the dividers setting down. I think it will work well.

This is the last time I will post about my humidor/knife cabinet, I promise:rolleyes:

I lined with sheet cork per a couple of you guys' suggestions. Actually sold as shelf liner with an adhesive back. It lies flat enough, I did not fix it to the bottoms. If I get oil on the cork or something, easy enough to replace a sheet.

Thanks again all for the great ideas.

That looks great! I have considered (even started one once) building knife storage boxes out of the leftover wood from my shop. You have inspired me to think about doing it again:thumbup:

The one i started was black walnut and i inlaid a oak bomb shield in the center of the lid. Need to find it and finish it up
