Slightly off topic (Age bracket)

49 here, made my first few knives in 1982 - 83. Then started in again in 02 doing kit knives, then started grinding my own blades in 04. I have learned so much from other makers, and I try to pass it along when I feel that I have something worthwhile to offer.

I'll be 30 next month.

I've been making knives for about a year. Challenging, yet extremely enjoyable. I'm really glad I started, and can't imagine not making knives now. I wish I had started years ago.

I think that most knife makers are especially helpful because they realize that someone helped them along in the beginning. It's poor form not to give back.

I'm 41 and I guess I really started in 05. I was always the guy who had a knife and was the one you went to for sharpening. I just got tired of not finding a knife I liked at a price I could afford. Kept to the cheap tools for a while but started to pick up the good stuff this past year. Im having lots of fun, even if it is frustrating at times.

I'll be 30 the 10th of Dec. Been messing around with knives and guns ever since I got my first folder when I was 7. Collected all sorts of knives during my late childhood and early teen years. Then sold them and started collecting fantasy fixed blades and swords.

Last count, before I moved and sold most of them, I had 25 swords, 2 battle axes, 3 fantasy-themed spears, a tri-ball morning star flail, and a multitude of other fantasy blades.

I started into knife making with a kit knife last year and was hooked immediately. I'm finishing my 3rd kit this week for an order and hope to start grinding my own blades after Christmas. I was going to start over the spring/summer but money got real tight and I had to sell all my equipment I had bought to get started.

I have to agree that the willingness to share information among knifemakers is tremendous! Next to woodworkers, I haven't found a group who is so open with their methods and skills. I was into custom cars for a little while, and that group is one of the most tight lipped bunch of people I have ever met. Everyone is so scared that an idea is going to get stolen and copied.

I would like to say thank you for all the help you guys have provided me thus far!
