Slim EDC with integrated glass breaker?

I looked at the Ally awhile back. Didn't like the serrations either. Ended up getting a mini-grip...and then promptly selling it.

The ally would be a great glove-box knife, where the serrations might be useful. I already have a ResQme on my keychain, so I dunno. Here in Canada, you can get one for about forty bucks (*our* dollars) so I may end up owning one yet.

You might also want to have a gander at the Blackhawk Hawkhook. A dedicated rescue knife with a hammer-style glass-breaker that keeps your hand out of the way of shattering glass.

Or the SOG BiPolar. SOG has been taking a lot of flak lately (by me, among others) but this knife is kinda neat. Not just a glass-breaker, but two assisted-open blades - a deep-bellied straight edge, and either a smaller serrated edge or a V-cutter. They open out of opposite ends of the knife like a canoe-pattern slipjoint, and both have strong spine-locks.

There's also the Gerber/Hinderer Rescue Knife, which I think has a serrated sheepsfoot blade, with a glass breaker and a sharpened hook (like on the Benchmade ERT) that fold out of the handle.

Yeah, but as I said in my other thread, I'll consider knives outside of my price point if they are really, really cool.

Umnumzaan?

...Sorry.

The Boker Wagner Reality Based Blade is a slim, lightweight knife with a glass breaker. The drop point mod# BOP055 is the way to go. There are some automatic conversions available at a modest price.

I have three of the Boker Wagner Reality Based knives, the plastic scaled lockback, the all aluminum button lock, and the tiny pen style knife. All three have the glass breaker. The plastic scaled lockback is a large knife and will be on the larger side for an EDC. It's going into my Wrangler due to its glass breaker and pointy/part serrated blade which would be perfect for cutting through the rag top. This is a knife that you can really get a grip on.

The aluminum scaled button lock is a knife that I find to be of limited value. It seems to exist to be an aoutomatic or easily converted to one. I have no interest in that as it is legal to possess an automatic in my state but is illegal to carry. The problem with this knife is that as a button lock there are no thumb studs for manual opening so other than a clumsy grip of the blade (you would want easy opening in an emergency situation) you are left to flick the knife open which isn't always a good option. If this knife had thumb studs it would be an interesting option.

The tiny pen style Boker Wagner is a cool little knife but not one that I would depend upon for all but situations where nothing else could be carried.

The drop point Boker Wagner was designed as an automatic, because up until a couple years ago autos were legal in Germany. When the law changed and when they sell to U.S. civilian market, they basically just leave the spring out.

I almost bought it, then realized that opening this castrated automatic would be clumsy.

Get a rescue blue and trade out a normal blur blade so you will have a regular blade and a glass breaker.

sorry to but in lock1454 do you know if rick11127 got an answer to his question last year about a buffalo hunter knife he had lying in an old toolbox ? just like to see if he found out any more. thanks.

Just buy Ally. Great knife for this money. And very good in hand and in pocket. I have more than 10 knives but 95% I use Ally or Composite leek while large Spec Bump, Barrage, BM710 and BM 790 sleep in rear pocket. It is slim and very convenient to use.

Hi, thought I'd revive this thread to see if there's anything new on the market. Like the original poster, I'm looking for a small, light weight, thin EDC folder with a glass breaker.
I might try the Ally, but would prefer non-serrated and something non-threatening looking. I'd be using this primarily as an EDC in a city environment. Prefer under 3" blade and under 4oz (100g).

I'm not interested in "rescue" knifes, since I want a pointed tip (no tonto blades or seat belt cutters either). Just a simple thin folding knife with glass breaker. Any ideas?

Would it be possible to add a breaker to an existing knife?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give the Ally a try, for the price it's hard to beat.

Would really like to find a non-serrated blade and a "gentlemanly" knife with a glass breaker, but maybe that's too much of a contradiction.

You really ought to try breaking some junkyard auto glass with a lightweight breaker before you buy such a knife. Wear good gloves and protective clothing and eye protection when you do this. It is harder than it looks. The Spyderco Assist is the most practical design I know of in folders. Cold Steel makes some folders with pointy steel butt ends, but it would be a real stretch to call them "gentleman's knives."

The "glass breaker" is only needed if the knife doesn't already have metal handles. If it does have metal handles, all you need is a swift whack and the glass is gone. Just saying.
