So I have been on the search for a slim hard-use knife. I cut a lot of cardboard and use my knife every day at work for many things. I recently picked up a ZT 0550 (Gen 2) and even with the deep carry clip, I find it annoyingly large in my pokect. I think it might be too thick. I also need this one to be 3" or smaller. A couple of knives I have been looking at are the three sister forge beast and the cct. I have a small sebenza and it feels amazing in my pocket. I also was wondering how thick the techno was compared to the ZT 0550. Any more recommendations would be great! Also my budget is around 300. Also I was wondering about a Strider SNG. Thanks!

Have you checked out the Spyderco Ti military?

Thank you guys, the Millie is a little too big. My best friend rocks one. I had the sage 2, thought it was great also. Might look into the sage series again.

Spyderco Chaparral

Kershaw Blur

Spyderco Paramilitary 2

ZT0350 is surprisingly slim.

Could you define what you are looking for when you say "hard use"? Do you mean you are looking for something to hold it's edge for a long time as a constantly used tool, or something that you can beat around without worries, or something that can withstand the elements without any issues, etc.

I've carried this one daily for 15 years as a mechanic and still today, hasn't failed me yet.

Or if ya can find one an AG Russell Onehand folder.

Native 5 frn. Slim and light weight. Or the G10 version if you want to spend a little bit more and go for a bit heavier.

Sweet Crawford framelock! I bought a similar one when I visited his shop in West Memphis. What nice people. I bought another slightly longer one with canvas scales.

Here's a comparison between the SNG GG and a Small Sebenza Insingo. I'd say this is a great combo to carry and the Insingo blade shape is great at opening boxes and precise cutting requiring tip control. On a small knife I prefer the modified Wharncliffe shape to the standard Sebenza drop point. If you want the knife to disappear I'd recommend the SNG with the Gunner Grip without a clip or the Concealed Carry if you are going to clip it on your pants. The lego SNG is a bit chunkier. Both are higher than your price, but since you asked about the SNG I figured you're price point was flexible.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Kershaw Leek

The OP can consider it for his use but I never considered the Leek relative to "hard use". I have one and to me it seems very delicate. It might be OK for slicing cardboard but the handle is a bit small for me to get a good grip on it. I was going to suggest the Benchmade 943 until the OP said "under 3"". Then I was going to suggest the Benchmade Emissary but it might be a bit small too although I think it is a touch larger than the Leek.

If you don't want bulky, then do not get the beast! It is a well built knife, but in no way "disappears in your pocket". For a three inch blade, it might be the bulkiest knife I have ever handled.

OP, I challenge you to try a humble carbon steel Opinel for work and leave your expensive folders at home. You might be pleasantly surprised... :)

Thank for all the responses. I would love some great edge retention. I do use razors from time to time but like I said, I use my knives for everything. Thank you for the comparison. My small Seb is also insingo with micarta. I have an opinel an will try it out timberweasel. I was thinking about the Emissary. I hear awesome things about it.
