Slimline Trappers

I'd like to see a picture of that knife, Jake.
I haven't posted any since the photobucket went ignorant. I'll try another one of those foto sites later today. After coffee!

I too am an air force veteran
Security forces

i actually carried a gerber LST in my pocket
dang shame i gifted it to my sister some time ago :/
Thanks for your service! Always had a guard or two with me the last four years in South Dakota.

like i said, they are beautiful ascetically
i just dont see anyone edc'ing them

Well you won't see me carrying it... because it's in my pocket.

Almost every day I carry a Boker single blade trapper that I purchased here on the exchange. It's not for rough duty tasks, but as an office guy, I don't need to hammer it through drywall, or cut insulation... that's what my fixed blades are for.

The long slender blade makes for a WICKED slicer with great long cutting edge to really make life good. They are not fragile. get it out of your head. Every tool has limitations. It will slice better than just about anything I have, meaning it is perfect for office food prep, opening packages/envelopes, cutting threads off clothing, shaving arm hair to impress myself when bored, and any other usual EDC cutting tasks people do.

Here's my foto after coffee! Just like I thought! Too easy!

Lots of differences in the two as well. One thing hasn't changed over the years: The cracks in the scales at the spring pins!

The custom maker Don Hanson (Sunfish Forge) used to say he carried a Case slimline trapper for a long time. Can't get a better recommendation than his :)

I like the pattern a lot. With the CASE you get a good no frills knife that will slice and carries lightly in the pocket, no weight to it really. Very good fishing knife and picnic companion but as others have shown, it will take on all manner of work-horse tasks. I much prefer it to a full Trapper which I find unwieldy and have no use for the Spey. The CASE versions look particularly good as Barehead knives and I've even got one in G-10 that has interesting 'skin' to it like a fish scale.

The GEC 48 has been mentioned and is good, it too looks nicer as a Barehead.

Don't forget Queen Cutlery's Utility knife. Here you get a similar type of knife but it has a D2 blade offering edge longevity and superior cutting&strength.

P.S. You might want to edit your title, I believe it says slimeline rather than slimline
:eek::D

Wait - so this thread was about Slimline trappers the whole time? I thought it was about SLIMEline trappers, like the kind a snail lays down. I was never much into trapping snails.

So yeah, I have one of the Case Slimline Trappers. Great for apples. I used to leave it in my work bag all the time.

Here's a pic of mine. Patina hasn't changed much since taking that shot. Color balance is a bit off - a 4 year old cell phone isn't the best camera. With the right light the patina has a shine to it like blued gun metal. It's perhaps not readily apparent, but look close and you can see that it indeed has a half-stop.

My Derlin says Hi.

Derlin to me looks so old school... And I'm a fan of this pattern as well... easy EDC that's a great slicer...

Speaking of farmers, there's a thread around here about Menonnites (and/or Amish) vastly preferring the trapper over anything else.
Speaking of trappers, my cousin in the Adirondacks uses a fixed blade with a long, slim clip like a muskrat.

I need one of those yellow derlin Case in CV. Always wanted one.
This GEC is one of my most carries knives.

I also have this one from Blind Horse Outdoors. Made by queen, I believe. I need to pick up a diamond stone so I can get an edge on it. Also my only knife in D2 steel.

Beautiful knife. As for the Case yellow CV slimline, they're only like 30 bucks. Not much stopping you there.

Dunno if it qualifies but I love my Schrade 194OT. I bought it used and the quality of this ol' knife is amazing. Takes a super edge. And yes, it's in my EDC rotation!

Not sure if that chunky frame qualifies as a slimline, but one of these is definitely on my radar.
I really like that shape handle in the hand.
