Don't know if technology has really improved the concept. There was an article in Fur Fish and Game some years back about how to correctly make a slingshot. There were specifics for the picking a correctly formed and sized forked stick (the forks were not the same length), even for left versus right hand shooters. It did utilize some type of surgical rubber and had dimensions for the pouch size to properly release the projectile (.25 caliber steel I think). Way more information than I needed, but very interesting reading.
