Slingshots, wrist rockets, catapults

Still got mine after more than 30 years. Shot a lot of things with it, some of them I shouldn't have :p

Our woods gang all had them, and we'd have wars shooting green (hard)pine cones at each other. Ouch !!

Good, quiet firepower.

Kev,

I've been wracking my brain trying to incorporate a drop-away rest with a slingshot for use with arrows. Now I see the Chief AJ has already done it! I'm so up for a group buy! (If I can wait that long!!)

I just had a snow day and I finished up a slingshot project from this past summer (Pics on Facebook and here soon). I am on a crazy slingshot kick lately. I have two basic Marksman models without the wrist support(never really liked it) and one of those has a nasty set of extra pull bands.

Well, now I am thinking about a basic model from Bells of the Hythe in the UK. They're just plain nice looking. In looking around online, I stumbled on Chief AJ's arrow and conventional ammo slingshots. Wow!

Anyone else feel like a kid again when you pick one up? Thoughts?

I had one when I was about 12 with the wrist support. Three Words: Deadly Accurate, UpToNoGood.:D I never could afford the ball bearings, so I stole the round rocks that surrounded our swimming pool.

I've been thinking about picking another one up. They're like $8 at Wal Mart.

Heard from Bells of the Hythe and because of the labor involved, no group buy discount is available. Sorry, I tried.

I am still going to get one of the flat brass models. About $48 after pounds to dollars conversion.Nice and refined for deviant fun.

Has anyone else ever had a slingshot like this:
It was a one-piece molded plastic tube on a handle. The tube was about 2"-3" long and 1 1/2-2"wide. The rubber part looked like an extra long baby bottle nipple and was attached to the tube with an "o" ring to act as a keeper.

That thing looked funny and rocks would tear it up so you had to shoot shot/ball bearings out of it, but it was hands down the most powerful slingshot I ever had. I found it in a box a few years ago so I started looking around and can't find replacement rubber anywhere- it doesn't help that there is absolutely no brand or model name anywhere on it.

You can sure get some good slingshots cheap these days- what's a "whisker biscuit"? I'd love to have a go with arrows.

Hey FLIX,

You can always make your own out of a cheapo nylon cutting board
and a couple of screws and wingnuts.

I use it with an arrow to put ropes up high, into the trees to hang bear bags.

I recall something like that from years ago. IIRC, it used a condom as the "rubber."

A whisker Biscuit is an arrow rest that holds the arrow in place with tiny bristles. the arrow passes through teh hole in the center and the fletching/vanes go thru the bristles without upsetting the arrow.

Hi Doc! I'm want a "Drop-Away" rest so I can shoot FOBs, rather than fletched arrows. You pop them on the end of the shaft and then insert a nock. They are designed to pop off when the arrow passes thru an animal, marking the point of impact. They won't work with a Whisker Biscuit, which would pull them off.

Here are some examples of drop-away rests. They hold the arrow in place until it is released and then get out of the way, having no contact with the shaft after that.

Flix, That's the one.(Whisker Biscuit) Turn the notch for the arrow to the left and use 2 zip ties to hold it to the bottom of the "y" of the slinshot. You can then fold it down when you want to shoot shot.

Some mods I made to my Laserhawk...Arrow rest which can be bent down out of the way to shoot ball ammo.
Original arrow rest design which didn't allow me to cant the wristrocket like my recurve bow. Both old and new rests were made from coat hanger wire.

New arrow rest design to allow for canting! The PVC is a future fish kit/reel like bowfishing.

This will be the next craze for bushcraft. I love slingshots, mighty useful. My grandfather was an extermanator and always had one with him for shooting rats under houses. He couldn't miss. I am not too big on the laser sight ones. Kinda defeats the purpose.

We used to make something like that in school. You cut the throat off of a latex balloon, stretch the opening halfway over an almost empty roll of tape, wrap tape around the outside to affix the balloon, and go to town. Eraser heads were our favorite ammo and they sounded like a tumbling bullet when they went past your head.

gonna have to go hunt for a slingshot at my local shops and see what i can turn up :D

Plainsman, thanks for posting this. I've been meaning to do something with my Laserhawk and this is the ticket. My favorite fishing hole is going to decrease in population this spring.

Cool thread. My son and I were shooting wristrockets in the backyard for a while there, but lately he has been more interested in shooting guns....

I have always meant to buy a Combow, but have never gotten around to it:
