i sent my TUSK back to brkt for a little R&R and body tuck. its been a week and a half since weve seen each other and after speaking to them it will be atleast another week. i need something new to hold me over. im thinking a small cheap slipjoint for camping and around the house. any suggestions (besides buck - got a few already) ? maybe even a real basic sak - i just wanted something a little more stylized.

Boker Whittler. Carbon steel, small, handy, and good price.

Or, any ALOX SAK.

uncle henry340t....have one in my pocket every day and I love it.

You can get them for 20 bucks on the bay and it's a knife for life.

I would have to go with an alox SAK myself. Amazon had the red alox farmer going for $15 and I managed to snatch one up. Last I checked they went back up to 30ish but the silver alox were still $15. The alox cadets are cheap too and come in a bunch of colors so if you want something basic and different thats something to consider.

My personal choice is pretty much always a good SAK. I love em. Sharpen up great and are highly functional, easy to find one in your flavor. I like the Farmer model.

A new one just came out that you might like, the Sentinel:

If you're into traditional slippies, the Rough Rider knives (also available at eknifeworks.com) are getting pretty good reviews over in the traditional subforum here at BF. These knives run under $10 for the most part and look pretty fair for a cheap user.

i like the elephant toe but it seems like it might not fit my needs. im looking for something like a sodbuster with a saw blade as well. are there any simple sak's with plain blade and saw only ? maybe a can opener but not too much junk

Case Sod Buster Jr. In Stainless (HC).

Available at Lowes for $17.95.

See the "Best Soddie" thread in the Traditionals forum for more info.

Then maybe a Opinel folding Saw.

Spyderco make a non locking knife (uk penknife) but it's not that cheap.
the soilder model is popularin the UK as it has a stronger blade then most SAKs

AHA! forester wins it! few too many items but i guess more is better than less. thanks for yalls help

Great Eastern cutlery makes a few good slippies in 1095. In a somewhat trapper model. I like the looks of there stuff. www.knivesshipfree.com has a good bit of diversity in slippies....shippings free too!

I carry a SAK on me with my kits and I tend to carry a case or a GEC.
