I attempted to remake a knife i remember my dad carrying for years when i was a kid. My memory is fuzzy, but i always like that knife and i knew he did too. All i remember was it had a dark wood handle, brass pins and bolsters that i think were threaded, had that wide long nail pull, and was a 3 finger handle length. I can't remember the blade profile exactly but i remember it wasn't a hugger and you could open it by pinching the blade. The wood is jatoba that i stabilized and i used 1095 steel.

There's a couple flaws with this knife. The nail pull goes a bit too far back, there's a decent gap between the liner and spring, and it isn't quite centered (about a third of the way from one side) and i am scared to try bending it anymore than i already have. Pretty sure my spring warped, i will start checking for that after quenching. But the memory is the important part. i hope he loves it as much as the original.

Any father worth his salt would love to have that handmade gift, no matter how imperfect it is. My kids give me acorns and I still keep them lol

Looks like a good start!

He taught me how to be the man i am today and when look around at other people, I'm very thankful for that! Can't wait to go visit and eat a big turkey dinner!
