...Also, there can be a difference in tension opening a blade and closing a blade....

I once had a Laguiole that wasn't too bad on the opening but it closed like a bear trap or maybe more like a French guillotine. As manly as I am, I was a little afraid of it. Yeah, that's what I said, afraid. It scared the bejesus out of me.:D

I like a reasonably strong backspring.
Blues- great poll to see what everyone likes:thumbup:
Mitch

Thanks, Mitch but I can't take credit. It was actually the brainchild of an unnamed custom maker that spends time hereabouts.
All I did was come up with the choices within the continuum and post the poll.

Thanks, though.

Now you went an flung a real downer on me Blues because, REALLY! what kind of parents puts their kid out there in the world without a name? :grumpy:

While we're at it, we should come up with some ideas and I submit William Robert Blade (I think Billy Bob Blade sounds kinda cool) and just in case it's a girl, Slice (one word names kinda have a rock star appeal....you know, like Fergie and Madonna):D

(oh crap!!! Im in trouble again ain't I) :o

Kerry, you're good.

It actually was a rock star/budding knife maker. From U2 no less. "The Edge".

Now, get back to that corner. No, on second thought get back to work on my knife! ;)

Well Blues you worded it well.

I like a knife to be easy to open, but I don't want it slipping from fully open if I push on the spine while I use it. I have one Case from 2000 that does that a bit, but I still like and use it -- I'm just careful. Knife has half-stops, or I'd probably not use it much. I don't really like a knife to fling itself open if it's not supposed to be an assisted opener. Just right, not a nail breaker, easy to open, stays open until deliberately closed.

I voted in the middle, but after reading more of the posts I see that I actully lean toward a bit stronger than that. Not a total nail mangler, but with some good resistance (when on the larger knives). So I'm at "reasonably strong for safety" - - Regards
