Slipjoint Fans: What Pattern do You Collect?

It's nice to see so many replies to this post:)
I must also note that another slipjoint collection of mine that just grew before it officially became a collection is my dozens of SAK/Boy Scout/Utility
pattern collection.

I think it's great to see so many folks are into slip joints. I collect Case Muskrats and big Congress 88 patterns.

Not really, Gus. when you go to gun/knife shows and bigger knife shows like Blade, you see all the commemorative pocketknives are mostly trappers. I'm not sure why this is....maybe because the trapper patterns are among the biggest (if not, THE biggest) slipjoint pocketknife pattern?

I collect ......folding hunters. Big ol' folding hunters.
Love'm. Really like the old two blade folders ,but I've
got a few of the single blade huntes also.

It's easy to see how the folk's in the pre tactical folder days
had some really good knives available at some really good
prices. Yep, and they had "soul" and character of design.

Not like the rambo wanna be souless tactical one hand
wonder knives sold today. Kinda think that's why slipjoints
won't go away and are enjoying a resurgance in popularity
again. Character and beauty.

As much as I admire the focus of some collectors to collect one pattern of knife, that has never been my goal. The only thing I buy or acquire as a collection is Stag. My goal is to collect as many different examples as possible in stag and to get as nice a piece as I can. If I had to pick a favorite pattern it would probably be a Trapper or Barlow. I have a stag Barlow and Daddy Barlow in stag, but so far No Trapper. I'd like to have one custom made with a wharncliff rather than a spey blade, (and a clip-point). Once I had that I'd figure I had that pattern covered, and start thinking about the next pattern I need. ;)

I like all kinds of slip-joints but I really go for the Swiss Army knives (both Victorinox and Wenger).

I also love slip-joints with yellow scales, like the Camillus Yello-Jaket line.

Good luck,
Allen.

I have been mostly a stockman type of guy but like a good whittler also. As long as they are carbon steel I like any of the paterns. No ss for me. Cann't wait for the Queen d2 knives.

Well there has not been a vote for
copperheads, so I quess I'll cast it.

1. Copperheads
2. Med. Hunters
3. Trappers
4. Stockman

I'm about to start collecting a few of those new, Case Seahore Whittlers! Wow, what beauties!

If you're interested in slipjoints you should check out the new slip joint forum at kinfeforums.com. Lots of good stuff over there.

Sunfish. Old ones, new ones. Production or custom. Love Don Hanson's stuff. You just can't top a Case XX Sunfish with perfect Greenbone.
Lately I have been looking at the Wharncliffe Whittlers. I have been wanting to compare the Case Seahorse with the Bulldog Brand Viking. I do believe that would be interesting. Has anyone done it?
Greg ;)

Here are some big uns. Case 72 pattern or bulldog.

Those are some nice looking knives Bastid great collection. Mine currently runs towards scout knives(SAKs)stockman, and the CCC ( Case Collectors Club) knives. But some of those whittlers are calling me!

Do you Canoe.

A couple of years ago I set out to put 20 Buck Creek Indianhead stockmans in a display case. I did. I was inspired by my brother's canoe collection he has in a case. I like the three blade stockman pattern and I enjoyed finding them one by one. Most I found on E-bay, some at shows, and one old Christmas tree I traded for a Leatherman micra with a lady who had bought it off an old guy at a flea market. Finding and collecting them was fun.

Stockmen and whittlers right now. Really, whatever I can find at antique stores for a fair price.

The only slipjoints I collect are any type of Barlow and anything that Bob Ogg made. I get a great sense of achievement when I find and procure one of Bob's old knives. Really cool for me.

I love the really old stuff, Sheffield and early American stuff. My main collection is Lobsters, which come in many different patterns and blade combos. Because of they are difficult to make, most are premium knives made by the shops best craftsmen. I also have sub-collections of odd and unusual patterns that I just like. Swaybacks and serpentine/dogleg types really make me swoon. Recently, I've been smitten by very small, sub 2" (closed) multiblades that are incredibly well made. How did those guys grind those tiny blades? My best "mini" is a 2" Eclipse congress with 4 blades, long pulls, 1/2 stops, in MOP with silver tip bolsters that reminds me of a Swiss swatch. It's probably a 100 yrs. old. They don't make em like they used to!

Definitely the Trapper. I'm scared to re-count how many I've picked up since my last count. Most of them are Case, but I do have several Eye Brand, Puma, Moore Maker, Hen & Rooster, Bulldog, and Henckels.
