slipjoint pivot- bird's eye

The larger diameter pivots or bird's eye.
Are those just larger caps of stainless steel rod? or is there practical function on a shadow type slipjoint...increases the bearing surface like a washer?

Does the smaller 3/32" pivot pin go through the bird's eye cap?

Yes, the 3/32" pin goes through the cap or washer. This keeps the head of the pin from being pulled down into the handle material.

The reason it's called a birdseye is if you use 2 different metals it will give a neat look.

thanks gents, so I tried it and here it is
I think I can make it nice after a final peening assembly

one other question, I messed up the nail nick on another one.
I'm thinking to mill it out with a carbide cutter and make some sort of brass pull tab,
any suggestions on a substitute for a messed up nail nick?

Mill an oval slot thru the blade where the nail nice is supposed to be, like a scagel folder.

I agree with Darcy,mill it out scagel style> I have done a few like that and folks with no fingernails really like them as makes it easy to pinch.
I use a 3/32" carbide end mill.
