Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations on a slipjoint knife that looks traditional but has a stainless-ish, somewhat wear resistant, modern steel (e.g. S30V, CPM-154, etc.) I really like the looks of the numerous GEC models I've seen. Ideally it should have 2 blades at most, as this will be carried in dress slacks/suit pants so size and weight are considerations.

I have the 2018 Forum knife on order but would like to add some additional items to my EDC rotation.

Ideas? Thanks!

Some Case/Bose collaborations are 154-CM.

The Lion Steel Barlows are M390. I'm sure someone more knowledgable can come up with more.

As mentioned, Case/Bose uses 154-CM.
Also Queen has made knives in that as well.
AG Russell has some of their knives in VG10.
Lionsteel, but I think they look more modern with their torx screws and radiused edges.

Like others have said the Cas/Bose Collabs are nice, the CK lionsteel barlows are very nice, and Queen(especially S&M file and wire and Tuna Vally).
Case has used 154cm in some standard patterns in I believe 2009 the ran a Barlow (just ordered one as a gift), a Stockman ( 47 pattern, I like mine) and a hunter. More recently they ran a trapper and back pocket in 154cm.
Boker runs some patterns in 440C. A Stockman or two and I believe a Barlow.
The French cutlers utilize the Sandvik steel often, not sooper steel but still very nice in a laguiole.
Then there is the custom market, lots of cpm 154.

For carry in slacks you might look toward the Peanut. Case or preferably A G Russell which unfortunately is currently out of stock but the peanut is only 2 3/4" and doesn't imprint. Buck's 309 for the same reason as the peanut. If you want a slightly larger knife some that you might consider are; Case's wonderful 22087, Schrade's 834UH or 34OT and Buck's 303. All stainless and all good quality. Enjoy the search and let us know what you choose.

edit; Ooops had to eliminate the GEC because it's not stainless

I don’t know what your budget it, but have you considered going custom? There are lots of new makers with some great looking knives in the steels that you are looking for that won’t break the bank.

Enigma knives in
Don't have one yet and don't know the quality.

I’ve got two. One is US2000(Cruwear), the other is M390. Maple burl covers with mosaic pivots, titanium liners,(very light but ultra sturdy knives) they even have bronze washers. Quality is top notch. Price point including shipping from Poland comes in maybe $10 more than a similar GEC would run. The only negative I can think of for some, is a big plus for me personally, but they have a heavy pull.

Have to second the Case/Bose Norfolk. Canal Street did knives in 14-4CrMo and hae nice grinds.

Queen has made knives in ATS-34. Under their own name and the Northwoods brand. The mini moose model comes to mind, small, beautiful grind, and one recently came up for sale in the for sale forum here

Been loving the Lionsteel Sheepfoot. The fit and finish is very nice and precise with radiused everything as far as tang, liners, and blade. It carries well in watch or pants pocket with or without a leather slip. I carry mine in right pocket in the slip most often.

Excellent description but you left out one thing. They're good looking too.

You can order some customizable Buck knives off their site in various steels. You can get a Buck Squire in S30V with a wide choice of handle materials.

Another vote for the Lion Steels. I love my two.

I think if I were to buy another one I'd probably go with an Enigma(I have a Shuffler and Dom already from Lion Steel). Especially since I just found out US2000 is essentially ZWear/CruWear! I did not know that, haha.

That said, it's hard not to love the classic Barlow look the Lion Steels offer, with the added benefit of M390 and titanium.
