Not sure if this has been posted here before. A member recently linked this in another subforum. It is interesting to see how the different types of steel behave during the cut.

Cool video Rick. I've hadn't seen that before. I'm struck with how much machined steel, at this magnification, reminds me of Jabba the Hut. The similarity is quite stunning. I'm also amazed by how much of the physical steel deformation takes place far ahead of the tool edge.

I just wish there was something to show scale of the images. I mean, is it a 1mm cut depth or .1mm? The shearing was amazing to see!

Both are great videos.


I worked in a diecast die shop for several years, and was amazed at the details that we were able to produce. I am fortunate to still be able to see some of the products 'out and about', and take great pride in the fact that I was part of those projects. It was the most rewarding job I have ever had.
