OK, CRK knife (Sebbie/Unfaan/Mnandi/One-Piece) lovers...I've got one for you.

When you feel like "slumming it" and going out without a CRK-made knife on your person--what would you carry?

Let me re-phrase: What production (no customs please) knives do you feel is closest (notice I did not say equal) to reaching the high quality mark of CRK--and you would therefore use in place of your CRK from time-to-time.

Just curious...

Spyderco Ti-Lum folder
Spyderco Ti-Police
Gerber Ti-Airframe

What can I say-I like Titanium!

Well, I always seem to have my small classic on me. But along with that usually goes my LUDT or lately the new Tachyon. I don't think I have to mention their Microtechs. But for those of you who are unfamiliar. If I'm going camping or hunting, I always have my large wood inlayed Sebbie on a CR belt sheath. Though really big chores require the use of one of my Cold steel fixed blades. ;)

Hmm...while not exactly what you asked...I usually carry an Emerson Mini-Commander (green handle) or a nice slip-joint when not carrying a CRK. The Emerson is my standby tactical (dare I say "somewhat expendable') folder (My wife would kill me is she heard me say any $100+ knife was expendable ;)) and sometimes I am in a "slip-joint" mood... However, lately I have been carrying a spydie "mouse" alot...

Ok...here's an update to what I carry:

EDC (weekdays):
- Small rosewood-inlay small classic sebbie (soon to arrive
cool_shades.gif
)
- Spyderco Mouse (when in a sub-2.5" locale)
- S&M jigged white bone whittler (when in a slip-joint mood)
- Leatherman Micra (on keyring)

Weekends:
- Large plain sebbie (in leather pankake sheath or clipped in pocket)
- Leatherman Micra (on keyring)

Field Duty:
- Emerson Mini-Commander (green) - (clipped in pocket for "waved" deployment)
- Leatherman Micra (on keyring)
- Leatherman Wave (in bianchi accumold belt sheath)

Wilderness:
- Large plain Sebbie (in TAD horiz. belt sheath)
- CRK P-II (in SOE sheath w/ Leatherman Wave in acc. pocket)
- RMJ Forge Talon

Hunting:
PCKT Buck 110 (stag, BG-42, NS bolsters)

William Henry for dress. Camillus EDC for inappropriate knife activities or when I might loose a knife (boat).

Let's see. . . there is a. . .Microtech UT6. And then there's a
Microtech LCC DA and a Microtech SOCOM MA. Of course, we can't forget
about the Microtech SOCOM DA. There are also 3 knives that I carry
that aren't quite up to "par" with a Sebbie. . .but I think are quite
the "litle" knife. . .a Kershaw Random Task and Kershaw Ricochet !

Oh. . .and the Benchmade 690 isn't too shabbie either. :D

Of course. . .when I really feel like "slumming it". . .I attempt to off-set the withdrawal's of carrying 2 Sebbies with. . .a Mayo TNT, Jason Jacks Raptor, Obenauf Model 1, DDR EDC, Carson M4 and Dubruski Atlantis.

I'm with K-guy on the MT Tachyon. It is built much like the Sebenza with p-bronze washers and roller bearings for the blade to pivot on. The absolute smoothest opening bali I have ever held! And I've held and owned my share of PC bali's, all great knives btw!

But really, go out WITHOUT a Sebenza:barf: I just can't make myself do such a thing:D

Well, I've used my Large Seb in some quite slummy evirons. In the past I carried a Victorinox Executive. Now, I'm a little less gadgety. (Still like SAKs though!) When I'm slummin' it in a body of water, I carry Boye Blue Whale folder, Dendritic Cobalt blade. If push came to shove and I was going to carry a pocketknife other than one of the Zulu trio, I'd reach for my good ol' Spyderco Co-Pilot. That Spydie is the bug that bit me and really made me think about what I wanted in a piece of portable cutlery. Lotsa memories with that little knife.:)

Either of the Spydie Wegners (small/large plain blade) or the first axis lock that BM came out with (can't remember the model number and too lazy to look it up!).

Well, in addition to my large plain Sebbie, 4 other production folders are carried on occasion when I am not carrying a custom;

BM 710 in M2
MT LCC
Spyderco large Wegner and Starmate

Of these the Wegner is definitely the most Sebenza like. About the same dimensions, tip-up carry and hollow ground. Of course the steel and edge geometry are not up to par nor is the knife as smooth and solid overall. Fit & finish is also notably a notch down. The lock-up is as solid however, if not as strong in ultimate tests. All in all though it is a good substitute and is about 3/4's the knife at about 1/3 the price and easily the winner in the economic wars.

I guess it really isn't slumming though as the cost of the 4 production blades together is considerably more than the Sebenza alone and if I had to choose between the 4 or the Sebenza, guess what I would pick? As this is in the CRK Forum, you know my answer :D

I have a full array of subs when not carrying the Sebenza or CRK

Large Classic -- BM mini AFCK M2HS (Old Style)
Small Regular -- BM 705 forum knife (not really slumming it)
Mnandi/Umfaan -- VB UDT

Still looking for a non-auto to carry in place of the Umfaan. Any ideas anyone?

Surprisingly, the $25 Kershaw Vapor has worked very well! Been carrying it for about two weeks now! But in the end I always go back to the Seb as a daily carry knife. :)

Though I normally carry my Sebenza I do occasionally carry as a substitute my MT LCC, a BM710HS (M2) or one of my Buck 532 LE2000s (BG-42). They certainly do not match the Sebenza but I am quite fond of them also.

Right now I'm "making do" with a Spyderco Military and a Victorinox Soldier while I wait (yes, anxiously, if you're wondering) for my small Sebenza to arrive in the mail. It "got caught in the holiday rush" the post office said. I'll be looking for the poor guy all day tomorrow!

If you own a Sebenza or other CRK product, why go WITHOUT? If you only own one......it's time to revise the budget :D
Here is a partial list of "Non-CRK" knives that rotate through my EDC:
Microtech LCC DA
Microtech SOCOM MA
Microtech SOCOM DA
Microtech UDT
Microtech Mini SOCOM

Well, here's a partial list of knives I'll rotate through when not wearing a CRK:

- Microtech Mini Socom
- Benchmade 720 Mel Pardue (Axis lock)

Less frequently:
- Emerson CQC-7A (but basically retired to garage/yard duty)
- Spyderco Delica (always in my travel toilet kit, in case I forget to pack a knife)

And when/if it ever gets here:
- William-Henry S05-C (for dressy occasions)
