"Slumming it" without a CRK

I think I would go naked! It's been such a long time. But if pressed I would go with the Benchmade 940 or Emerson CQC-7.

The only production pieces I own anymore are CRK's and a newly added Tachyon... The Sebenza of Balisong's :D ;)

Why no customs? I'll take a Sebenza over 85 - 90% of the customs I've held or owned and, asthetics aside, it's as good as any custom I've held or owned.

For the last five years there has been a 3" plain edge Spiderco Delica on my work key chain. It replaced an old Swiss Army knife that resided there for about 15 years.

I keep a 4" fully serated Spiderco Endura in my car.

However, in my pocket, until last year when autos were made illegal in Florida, used to be a benchmade 3500 3" auto.

Now, when I don't carry my CRK knives, I take..... damnit, I just looked in my safe and realized that I don't carry any of my other knives. Perhaps I should sell some of them.

Cpirtle, you are right on the money! The Sebenza has tighter tolerances and better execution in manufacturing than most of the customs I ONCE owned. The only custom knives that matched this were the ones I owned by Warren Osborne, before he begin building the art knives. I've yet to own a custom framelock, and I've had several, that had the same precision of lockup along with the opening and closing of a Sebenza.

That's why I only own Sebenza's now:D Of course the MT Tachyon, being built a lot like the Sebenza, is an exception! It is very:cool:

I don't want to be with out one.....but

Hello, Going with out one and even worse not even having one......those thoughts are unthinkable tragedys.:(

But when push comes to shove and I find myself without one I carry a sailors yachting or rigging knife with the marlinspike on the opposite side of the blade. I don't know the brand or the make because my dad gave it to me a long time ago. It's a super tough knife, but it does not have the finesse of the sebenza or the beauty of the wood inlays.;)

I think the blade style on the rigging knife is a sheeps foot or wharncliffe style. I don't care for that style blade because I find the sebenza style blade much more usefull and good looking too.

If I were going to carry something else, it would most likely be one of the following:

Spyderco Calypso, Sr. [4" blade length is near perfect, plus vg-10 and micarta]:cool:
Spyderco fully serrated Delica
Microtech Socom m/a tanto point
Plus other odds & ends that I carry as I feel like it

Frank

Note: My large Sebenza [line drive graphic] is incoming, as well as a flat ground large Sebbie :D :D

My first Sebenza, the design they based the Line Drive on;

This is the first "Line Drive", a small Sebenza, but the graphic was done by hand and not CNC'd;

And a small Sebenza with Silver Contrast of the design, keeps me from carrying the decorated models;

I'll carry the same knife that I did before I got my Umfaan. My Min Com BTS. Very nice knife and oh so fast on opening. If I want to carry a REALLY expendable folder, I'll carry a small DoukDouk.

stjames:

Thanks for the photos- that's lovely stuff. The thing I like about the line drive design is that it has a sort of Kandinskyish feel to it, meaningfully abstract.

DAMMIT, I just got my first Seb. large notice I said FIRST... and now I don't want to carry anything else.

I always heard OH they are this and that, I even palyed with one and thought it was "cheap" (please let me finish) and then saw them at the SHOT show still not that impressed. When we set up with them and got our order in I got to finally play with one. So simple yet so amazing. I already have a small and umfaan fund set aside, just need to pick graphics. I honestly can not see myself carriny anything else except these for a LONG time. This is the BEST knife I have ever used!

The ONLY exception is a MT Ultratech that goes low-pro in the waistband, and it goes solo if I am going somewhere where I might get a crappy patdown.

Now I am just trying to decide if I am going to sell my MT, MOD, and BM

Ok, interesting question.

Large Benza- MOD QCD DD, LCC D/A, Spyderco Formite Military, BM 710 M2

Small Benza, Cammilus EDC 154CM, Spyderco Delica, Spyderco Native.

Mnandi- ??? Spyderco 'Q'? Nothing like it!

heh, slumming it.. I've been carrying a Spyderco Temperance Jr, replacing a large sebbie.

A Spyderco salsa which doesn't quite replace anything. :-)

When I must feed my bolster fetish - WH Fishtail

When I can live without a Ti Integral Lock - Spyderco Worker (various)

When I need a big folder - Spyderco Military

And believe it or not, I am going to try a slip joint for the first time in about 25 years, a Case Wharncliff Whittler, incoming.

My large Seb has been with Chris Reeve for a month now. It's just in for a little cleaning and such.

I picked up a BM 710 in M2 to carry while the Seb is out. The 710 is a VERY good knife. A steal for the price. It'll get me through for now, but I terribly miss my Seb.

I want my Sebbie back!!!! Whahhhhhhhh!!!!! :mad:

Ahhhh...... My large Seb finally made it back to me, after a month of being away. No more slumming it. Chris did a sensational job of resharpening the blade, and even threw a new blue thumb stud on to boot.

I have to tell you that a month was just too long to go without my Seb. It was like drug withdrawls. Imaginary bugs were crawling up my arms. I'd get the shakes out of nowhere. The hair started to grow back on my forearm.

But all is well now. I can breathe a long sigh of relief... and go cut something!!! :D
