You know what sucks? This is the second Google search result when I type "Pop's knife supply."
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...e-with-Pop-s-Knives-and-Supplies(UPDATE-PG-3)

I read through that thread, it seemed that although there were frustrated parties, it ultimately ended up with some resolution. Pop got a lot of support in that thread, in fact much more than was said negative about him, but still his business is stuck with a search result right below him on Google page one, about a "horrible experience" with his business.

I don't really have any suggestion per se about what to do here, if anything, I guess I just want to note that care and an even temper are good to exercise when posting about a business matter online. People are of course free to say what they want, it's just that this, a year later, is serving basically as a banner to deter his potential customers.

Now I'm off to go buy buy belts from Pop's. I know him to be a great supplier.

I just saw this post by chance. I've met Pops several times and bought from him in person and online. Every time, every way, he has always been great.

I agree, but unfortunately some threads end up being pure emotion and very poorly thought through. We've seen a rash of them in the last 7 days. What people fail to realize is that when they author such a post, the result can be devastating not only to the subject but to them as well. For being a relatively small community, folks have long memories.

Well, I'm ordering through Pop's today. After I get the belts I think I'll start a thread about how great the experience was, hopefully that one will wind up high in Google results too.

I just read through the linked thread.

I understand that he didn't like having to wait, but he's making a big deal out of nothing.

Every belt I have every purchased has been from Pop's, and that isn't going to change.

That is a sad fact in today's world of internet interactions.

Some years ago I wrote a book (about my personal experiences with Lyme disease) and - being very excited about my accomplishment - mentioned that fact on a couple of Internet (Lyme disease) forums. I didn't ask anyone to buy my book - I merely announced the fact that I had written a book.

I was immediately attacked for "preying on the sick" and accused of all sorts of misdeeds. Since the book was authored under my actual name, it was a simple matter for my attackers to smear me all over the internet. It was two busy-body women who were primarily responsible - they spent hours upon hours bad mouthing me and posting bad reviews of my book (on the online book resellers). The odd thing about it is the fact that neither of them had read the book (I know that because the book had absolutely nothing to do with possible cures for Lyme - I didn't even discuss that topic).

I tried to fight back - at first. That just made things worse.

I finally decided to just ignore them. The book never sold much (a few hundred copies) but I hadn't written it with the idea that I'd become rich. Still, I am convinced that those two meddling women harmed potential sales. They certainly slandered me and they caused me a great deal of grief when I was very ill.

I am convinced of one other thing: those two women earned themselves a special place in hell because of their actions.

For me, that is enough.

As for the topic at hand: I have no dog in the fight. But I do understand.

I was googling POPS because I wanted to try some of the J-Flex scalloped belts that I heard some people talking about in Shop Talk and I ran across that thread yesterday. I just figured it was a minor issue all blown out of proportion after reading a few posts. But I don't think it would deter me from using him him at all. But I can see how it may affect his business. But I hope it does not.

Reviews online have created a new kind of consumer...the blackmailer. Once a year or so I get a customer who isn't happy with paying for the service I provide and they agreed to up front before the work was done, and is market value. They demand free or they will slander my company online on every review site there is. I usually give in because it costs me more in lost sales than to fight. More and more are doing it to the point personally I don't even trust online reviews at all anymore. We'll because of that and I can pay companies to post false positive reviews and bury bad ones. So in the end what should have worked we'll has been corrupted and ruined.

Shame on that pops thread I remember that one, but if anyone reads it its clear he has a good honest company.

Just received a box from Pops today. Always great service and a pleasure to speak with.

Once you deal with Pops you won't buy belts from anywhere else! He is hands down the best and I like to support his family ran business.

If you are a newer maker just give him a call and help will help you out. You couldn't talk to a better guy either.

Belts are my biggest expense as a maker and I go through a few hundred dollars worth every month. It is a big deal to me to get a great price and top notch service so I go with Pops.

Internet exposure is important but quality and service bring back customers over and over again.

Yea,the internet is great and it sux.As for Pops,i think he has enough love out there to overcome that google search. He helped me out with my grinder for parts when i first got it.He's definately quite a good guy.

After the last order I placed I had to give POP a call to THANK HIM.
3 days from Placing the belt order to my door.
I normally keep 10 Belts as back up of each grit. and order 30 per grit at a time. I do not want to run out.
Well I screwed up. I had run out of 400 grit belts.
I did not ask for special service But the service was Excellent.

Thank's POP.
Dave
