Sm. Sebenza replacement ideas needed

Well RL you need to get over whatever problems you have with the Sebenza. The first post I ever saw of yours was on USN where you jumped me about saying the word Sebenza. It is obvious that you do not like the Sebenza, we know that, without any doubt. As far as poor knife etiquette, I don't think it is a problem at all.

Art, I don't have "a problem" with the Sebenza...I have a "problem" with some of the behaviour of some of the owners...the reason I made a comment on USN was because you were doing the same thing there (on the CUSTOM forum, no less) as you were doing on BF (and are doing right now)...beating the old "my Sebenza is better than a custom" horse..."thankfully" now you are beating the "my Smiths, Obies, and Carsons are better than every other custom" horse

If you want to show your respect for me...don't do it by trying to convert your conduct/etiquette into "a problem" with a knife on my part

JM - see my reply to your post about Buck/Mayo's in the Buck Forum. I recommend the new Buck Adrernalin-Ti, Model 172.
  • Black Anodized Aluminum Handles
  • Titianium Liner
  • Black Oxidized ATS-34 Blade
  • No Serrations
  • Deep Sitting Pocket Clip (The only thing you don't like)

Available NOW!!!

Do you have any pictures of this "Adrernalin-Ti"?

And another thing is the knife he is looking for has to be sheeple friendly, which really rules out black blades.

I have a scan taken directly from the Buck 2003 catalog that I will email you direct. I can't post an image here...

Edited - Pictures have been posted in the Buck Forum in the thread titled Buck 178 "Adrenalin-Ti" - Thank You mschwoeb

I strongly recommend the Obenauf Mini Model 2. Either liner lock or framelock. I currently own a liner lock and I have a frame lock on order. These are extremely tough knives that are actually significantly cheaper than a standard Sebenza, let alone one with graphics or some sort of inlay. I like my Obenauf even better than some customs that cost twice as much. An Obenauf is custom that is priced at level that allows one to pretty much treat the knife as a real work knife instead of a macho looking display knife.

Yes! Darrel made both my CF EDC and Apogee tip-up.

RL: Go to www.darrelralph.com
It's in the "folders" section (obviously:)), It also tells you the other blade styles you can get, or if you want something else, ask Darrel if he can do it. Thats what I did for my SECOND static. :)

The Static Maxx with a 3" Bowie style blade set up for tip up carry might be just the ticket. Now if only it wasn't over $500.00. While that is pretty high for me (would be most expensive yet) it does look cool and would probably be ahead of a unique decorated small Sebbie.

I'd like to see one up close and personal. I've handled a Madd Maxx but it was just too big for me. Is the whole knife scaled down, or just the blade and handle shortened as compared to the larger Maxx?

jmx..sorry..I posted here without ever answering your question

might I suggest something by Rick Hinderer? His new lock-stop device makes the framelock even stronger (these are older versions so it doesn't show in these pics though)

or the Scott Cook Lochsa...an integral (one-piece) framelock!

I like the looks of the Static Maxx, but the more I think about it, the more I think it's a little "loud" for my intended purposes. From what I hear about the Obenaufs, they're well made knives, but I want something less traditional looking. I hear Rick hinderer makes a great knife as well, but haven't fallen win love with one yet from an aesthetic viewpoint.

Now the Scott Cook Lochsa looks pretty interesting to me. Any details? Does he do a tip up carry version?

Gypsy: Low riding pocket clip is desireable to me. Stealth in a business environment is an asset to me. That's one of th ethings that attracted me to the little Sebenza to start with.

Scott Cook was the shop foreman at Chris Reeve knives for quite some time (1987-2001, I believe)...anyway, the specs on his Lochsa are:

blade: 3 5/8"
OAL: 8 1/4"
weight: 4.3 oz
handle: 6ALV4 titanium
blade: 154CM, BG42, S30V, S90V, damascus

check it out here:

(there is a PDF file somewhere on the page)

The Lochsa is a marvel of machining and design. The current model does have a 3-1/2" blade and I won’t be holding my breath waiting for the 3" version Scott has planned.

Have you considered a CRK Mnandi? Except for having wood scales instead of CF it sounds like it fits your needs.

jmxcpter,

I just measured my Buck Adrenalin-Ti for you. From the bend in the pocket clip (where the top of your pocket would be in the clip) to the top of what would show of the knife, is just about 1/2 inch. The handle as I stated is black anodized aluminum which gives the knife almost a "non-look" appearance. There are pictures of my knife posted in the Buck Forum, under a thread titled Adrenalin-Ti.

Peter, your knives just get better and better it seems! :D  :)

I agree with St James on the Cook knife. The blade is 3.5" but the overall knife is a bit smaller and thinner than a large Sebenza.

It's certainly well made but in addition to it being too small, I'm not nuts about the nick for blade opening.

Peter, nice knife, but a little too rounded for me.

Gypsy: I looked at the pics of the Adrenaline Ti. It looks pretty nice, but that particular one looks pretty beat. A cool design that is cheap enough to buy for fun, but not the EDC I'm looking for.
