I've had this one done for a few weeks now. I've just been too busy to get pictures taken. There are a few errors that don't show up in the pictures, but I look forward to your critique (I think) on what can be seen in the pictures.

1084 steel, claro walnut and buckeye burl handle with red G10 spacers, brass finger guard and pin.

I think "most" critique on this would have to be more subjective than objective, because to me it looks like you did a great job! It's a good looking little knife, fit and finish etc. :) . Sorry I couldn't be of more help ;) lol.

Looks good, one suggestion I would make is to keep the height of your grind equal towards the tip. Hope that makes sense. Handle looks comfortable. Well done.

I like the overall design. I like the contrast between the light buckeye burl and the dark walnut. The handle could do to be thinned down a little for my taste. Some like a thicker handle on a smaller knife, better to grip with. Good job!

The fit and finish on the handle looks really good. I like your guard shape too.

For skinners I like a full flat grind. This lends them to slicing better. Also, the ricasso looks a little bit too large.

I'd say it's a great little knife overall though. Have you made a sheath for it?

As said by the others, it is a good knife.

Some suggestions/critiques:
The handle is fat and round. Making it thinner side to side would help a lot. This would have also thinned the guard a tad and made it look less round.
The ricasso should be half as wide. No need to give up valuable edge length on a mall knife.
A tiny 1/8" choil at the point where the plunge meets the edge would be good.
The blade shape seems to be part way between a spear point and a drop point, but the spine looks ( maybe it is camera angle) to have a slight upward curve. It might have been better to lift the tip to meet that extended curve and make a regular skinner blade. This would have allowed a little more overall shaping to the knife by giving it a very slight "S" curve to the whole spine line from butt to tip.

Sorry to hijack this a bit, but it's funny........I can comment but the site (according to my computer) is "offline" everytime I try to post a new thread.

I agree with everything said in this thread. The spine was originally flat all the way to the tip, but I was having trouble making the bevels follow the curve of the blade. So I made it a drop point instead, and that's why the bevels are weird toward the tip as well. The ricasso is wider than I like, but it seemed like everyone seems to like an area for their finger if they choke up on the blade. So I tried that, but probably won't next time.

Thanks for the advise.

Oh, no, I haven't made a sheath for it. I barely have time to learn one new skill at a time.

I'm pretty green on this, but about the tip: From what I understand, there are two ways to grind the tip.
Keep the bald angle front to back even, and drop the handle end as you grind around the tip curve.
The other way is to pull the handle toward you slightly as you get to the tip.
Do I have that right?
I tend to drop the handle down slowly and not too much as I grind that curve to the tip.

Handle looks short, ricasso looks big and the grind height looks off toward tip. But overall very nice!

I really like the contrast between the dark (walnut?) and light (buckeye burl?) wood. The red lines between add a nice touch too. Excellent choice that way. I'm pretty well a noob but for me visually I would like the handle to look a little less round.
