I can't freakin' make up my mind!

And to be perfectly honost, the only prospect is the Kershaw Chive with black TiNi coating. I DO know, however, that the knuts here at BF will have suggestions aplenty. I need (do any of us knuts actually NEED another knife? I think we do  ) a small folder for my right pocket to compliment and (should my left hand be occupied) assist my D2 Grippie.

Here are the prerequisites:

Sub 2-2.25" (can't be even near the size of my grippie; I don't like secondaries to reach the size of or be near their primary counterparts) Compliment is the key word.

Functional and Practical (normal cutting chores; sometimes a wee bit heavy)

Folder

Preferably (but not required) black blade

>$40 but am willing to fudge A LITTLE!!

I think that just about covers it...FIRE AWAY!!:D

Have you looked at the Scallion? It is similar to the Chive but a bit bigger with a 2.25" blade and 3.5" handle. I think there is a black coated model.

I think there's a number of Spydercos in that range. Spyderco's ergos have a way of making a small blade seem much bigger in your hand.

That crow looks freakin SPECTACULAR but I'm afraid with the blade being around 2 3/16" and 6 5/8" OA, it might look too close to the size of my grippie.

Know what I mean? It may sound a bit odd, I just wouldn't feel right carrying two knives near the same size.

This (see photo below) arrived just two days ago. It's Blade-Tech's Mouse II, with an S30V blade of 1 5/8" and G10 handle (http://www.blade-tech.com/product.php?productid=805&cat=279&page=1). Blade-Tech's MSRP is $87.95, but I got it through Stellar Knife (http://stellarrigs.com/stellarknife/Fine_Folders_Gallery.html) for $63.99

Blade-Tech also has a Mouse Lite, with a 440C blade and nylon handle (http://www.blade-tech.com/product.php?productid=893&cat=279&page=1) for $37.95 MSRP. Stellar Knife doesn't list it on their site.

AG Russell ATS-34 Pocket Lockback.

I suggest it because it's just completely different from our usual tactical-looking pieces, and yet has up-to-date materials. It's great as a whittler, letter-opener, and loaner.

I have two, and carry one off and on as my second knife. Right now it has a place on my survival keychain.

It's quite a coincidence that you mention the AG Russell; I was JUST looking at that.

Bear, would you by chance have pick of it in hand or next to something that I could compare it's size?? Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry but I feel that I need to correct you.
It is NOT ironic that AG Russell was just mentioned. This is called a coincidence. Thank you for you attention in this matter. The misuse of the word ironic is becoming more and more commonplace, and is a great peave of mine.

And yet you knew what he meant. It's almost as if....he communicated successfully....

Does this indicate that words don't actually mean anything but the meaning we give them?

Depending on how small you want ot go you might take a look at the Spyderco Ladybug. I have their forest green serrated model on my key chain and use it all the time. Great little knife.

For general folders the Benchmade PIKAand the Spyderco's Byrd models are well made of good steel at attractive prices. I would rather get one of these in properly heat treated 440-C steel blades than some of the AUS-6/8 stuff I see. They all look good new but some wear down much more quickly and are just not as solid feeling as others. I think you should look for something that doesn't need daily sharpening.

So many"freakin'" decisions!
