Small 25 for my first CRK?

Hey all, I've decided that when the small 25 comes out I'm going to buy my very first CRK. I've been wanting one for literally over a year now, but I never thought I'd be willing to spend $400 on a knife. My opinion has changed. I only have to decide one thing. Should I wait for the small 25 (there will be one, right?) or should I get a small 21 now? I've actually started to have dreams about owning a CRK knife, so I have a feeling I won't be happy until I get one in my hands.

From what I have seen, I think I'd enjoy the 25 a lot more, but the 21 is still a heck of a knife! I'm sure I'll hear a lot of "Get both!" but remember, I've just recently "justified" putting down this kind of money on a knife... I'm not yet prepared to buy two. Yet.

Although I believe CRK will make the small 25 darn near perfect in hand I wonder about the double finger groove on a smaller knife. If I had no CRK knives I would want a small 21 and a large 25. Just my two cents.

I have this sneaking suspicion, that if you purchased a small 21 now, you would be ready to purchase another small 25 (or a large, or a Zaan, or a Mnandi.....) Looonnnggg before CRK releases one for sale. Just my 2 cents.

Besides, if you decided to sell one to get the other when (and if) they do come out, you would get most of the money back you paid to begin with. Good luck!

Interesting point you bring up. Maybe this will be the first time a large and a small Sebenza have slightly different designs, rather than just being shrunk down? I could see the small 21 being more comfortable than a shrunk down 25.

That sure is tempting, and that's why I'm posting here. I'm trying to get a feel for how long I'd have to wait to get my hands on a small 25. I might just get the small 21 and be completely satisfied!

In order I prefer the Regular, Classic, 21, and then the 25.
Go with a 21, or find one of the dicontinued models IMO.

Can you elaborate on why you prefer them in that order? Or is it mostly an aesthetics thing?

One the small regular your index finger goes up farther on the handle. I have a large hand, so it fits me better than the other smalls. I also like the blade profile of the regulars, though on the small there's not much difference.

The detent on the Classic is a bit lighter than on the 21's, and thats the main reason I prefer it over the 21. No biggie really. I also like the Classic stamp.

Prefer the 21 over 25 for a few reasons, but the thinner .125 vs .140 blade stock is the main one. The pivot bushing, and handle shape are two other reason I prefer the 21 over the 25. I don't like the double finger cut out at all.

That all makes sense. I have to think about it a bit more, but I'm pretty sure I'd be happy with either a 21 or a 25. It's just that I can get a 21 now if I want. Who knows when a small 25 will be available...

Get the 21.
I could see how the double finger cut out would be nice on the Large(Though I don't like it).
But on the small I think the 21 is the best bet.
I really like the 21.

I think you guys are right about that. I really can't see the finger cutouts working on a smaller knife. Maybe the small 25 will have a smoother design? At any rate, I probably will just go crazy waiting for the small 25 to become available. I think I'll get a 21, thanks for your advice guys! I'll be sure to post when I actually get around to pulling the trigger on it! Just need to think it over some more. Thanks again guys.

I called CRK to ask about the small 25, and was told that Chris has not even designed one yet. They said he might not change the small at all. With that info in hand, I bought a second small 21 a couple of weeks ago:)

No problem. As far as being smoother - probably not.
The blade will be a little thicker on the Small 25 like on the Large.
However.. I see that as a downfall. The blade on the 21 is the perfect thickness to be able to be used for any EDC task and still be a good slicer.
The 21 is my perfect blade.

If you are not restricted to the small by law, I suggest trying out a large 21, then getting a small 25 when it does come out. That way you get to wait without waiting! By the time the small 25 comes out you'll probably prepared to be buying a second. If not, CRK knives have amazing value retention so you could sell it and buy the 25 without much loss if any.
I think you will find that the large sebenza is still quite elegant, hardly intimidating and easy to carry! One of the things you don't hear as often about CRK blades (because everybody's busy talking about the other good things!) is how easily they ride in the pocket, and that they have one of the best if not the best pocket clip and lanyard system around.

Seems like the small 25 is a ways off then. I'll probably do exactly what you did and get a small 21 in the mean time. If me and the 21 don't become best friends, I could always get the small 25 when it comes out. Thanks for the info!

I'd like to get a small Sebenza because I plan on only using it for EDC. I'm not one of those guys who is obsessed with hard use either. I'll be using it for opening boxes, cutting zip ties, etc. When I venture out in the woods, I bring a fixed blade. I think a small Sebenza will be more comfortable to carry every single day.

I purchased my first CRK about 2 weeks ago---- a used large sebenza 21. Absolutely love it and it does carry very easily, but does have a good sized blade. I then decided to buy a used small sebenza 21---- perfect for my weekly office carry. It is a great size for EDC. You can't go wrong with the small 21.

I love both I have so far and have a used Zaan on the way now lol. Be careful, CRK disease is very contagious!
