Small 31 annoyance Update 7/15 with video

Well, I hear you but in 5 years being on this forum specifically as a CRK enthusiast, your the first and only so far. I could be wrong but I just haven’t seen this come up yet. Try a 21, they are better all around and you can pick one up here on the forum for $375-$475.
It has definitely come up before but it’s been a while since I have heard any mention of it. I have had to reposition the clip on a couple of my smalls. Also, some oem clips are more flexible than others.
Not my video but if you search “a new issue with the chris reeve small sebenza 31” someone posted a video about this on youtube back in 2021

I just looked it up. I’ve never seen her video of that before. It’s wild. Same exact issue as mine. Takes zero effort for it to fall into the lockbar. You see how easily she pushes it over….. same with mine

It's a feature! Once the clip falls against the lockbar it provides extra security for the lock bar accidentally moving! 😉

My small PJ 31 did this. I agree it is very annoying! I've seen a few reports of this "feature".

I removed the clip (better ergos) and carry it in a slip instead. Maybe I'll modify a spare clip slightly and try again...

I prefer the large's. They do not suffer from this malady.

I believe that’s why the clip was fully on the lock bar in the original design by Chris, the current design is a Ann/Tim “improvement.”

Yep my Sebenza 25 is that way, clip rests on the lock bar fully. Original Pivot Umnumzaan is the same.

Gizler00 Gizler00 you are not alone, sir! My Sm 31 pocket clip does this as well. DOB Feb 18, 2021. Doesn't really bother me all that much, but I can sympathize with your frustration. Anyways.. figured I'd chime in with another data-point for the forum..

Thanks for the responses. It’s not a huge deal… just drives me a little crazy.

These are the comments we and the manufacturers both see. When we let one QC issue go with a I don't like it, but it not a big deal. You just told that company crappy QC still sells. I've only seen quality plummet across the entire knife world over decades from people making making excuses for poor QC. It's a defect they need to correct, obviously or they wouldn't be sending replacement parts for free.

Look….. I agree. I feel that for a 475$ knife…. It should have zero issues. This is an issue to me. It’s not a feature. I did my due diligence and contacted them and was told it is designed that way. I’m not happy. But I know if I come in here hot and heavy…. I would have gotten bombarded by the fanboys…. I love CRK and have had dozens…. But never one that did this….. I am actually going to sell it because it drives me crazy

Yeah, you're right. I didn't mean to come off wrong myself. People can be touchy on the forums for some reason. I like Reeve Knives too. I was a Chris Reeve dealer before dial up internet was around. I was only 18 then and advertising in the back of tactical knives lol. You did erything you could and and handled it like I would. I was never frustrated with you, I am frustrated with CRK lol.

No worries man! I’m with you. I appreciate the conversation and thoughts…. It really is frustrating. However, I do think I am going to part with the knife. It just drives me insane. I feel as though my XXL hand does not help

I have a small 31 and the new MIM clip keeps the clip from flexing over on to the lock bar.

I've had the same issue for a couple of years with my small Magnacut 31. I opted for carrying it with a filler tab and loose in the pocket, but I recently came across this thread and decided to shoot CRK an email in hopes that a new OEM clip would resolve the issue.

This morning I received a response from CRK's customer service/warranty department letting me know that this is normal for stamped clips on the Inkosi and Sebenza 31 and that models in their show room exhibit the same behavior. Their recommendation was that I purchase the new MIM clip with the assertion that this would remove the clip movement.

Overall pretty disappointed in the response, I purchased the knife over the summer of 2023 and carried almost every day for almost a year before I transitioned to the just loose in the pocket with a filler tab installed (not my favorite way to carry a knife). Cutting firm fruit, cheese, or cardboard causes the clip to slide over the lockbar which has only gotten easier to do with time; almost as if this issue has "broken in". For reference I have large size hands and the knife has never been abused or hard used in any kind of way. I think I'm in the same boat as the OP here in that this annoyance is enough for me to want to part with the knife which is unfortunate since I always wanted a small Sebenza in the collection.

That’s not the best news to hear. Maybe this is another reason a lot of CRK enthusiasts/users prefer the 21s over the 31s.

No real dog in the fight, but I guess that’s kinda how the lock up is on the 31. The mim clip does stop the “flex” and they should probably ship with them.
