I thought the idea of having a small survival kit that was universal in accepting different types of kit was a neat concept so my brother and I came up with a design inspired here on the forums and came up with a prototype...

That's a pretty darn cool design. What are the exterior dimensions?

Background: We tried to design a small compact pack kit to be universal for different applications ie firefighting, military,& personal survival edc. I needed a small pouch to replace small misc. items for wildland fires ( recording weather, gathering information, signaling rotor/fixed wing etc)..this was what was used and is outdated.http://www.firecache.com/prodinfo.asp?number=90.6250 as well as the other small stuff that is tough to access when you need it. I was impressed by esee and thought that would be a great bag for what I needed, but unfortunately there pack's were unavailable and somewhat limited for what I needed. I asked my brother about E&E type applications and he came up with an initial sketch. We contacted Joel at Zulu tactical and we created this prototype. He sent me these photo's and shipped the pack out late last week. I like what Joel did with the hook and loop inserts. Here is a link about Joel owner of Zulutactical...http://beaconnews.suntimes.com/news...ecialized-pouches-for-soldiers-diplomats.html

Contents: For the Survival pack..
small fixed esee 3
Howard SI signal 2X3 mirror
photon micro light
rite in the rain notepad and pen
zippo and esee fire kit with button compass
I like the idea of pocket reference cards especially for the field..navigation,survival,E&E, for Firefighting pocket AAR cards..that is the reason for the removable card holder..
shelter-heat sheet blanket
the outer pocket is designed to fit the main course from a mre.
the side admin access pouch is for AH-1 arrowhead or a map
McNett micro frontier filter and tablets

I like it,

I built a similar kit with a Cheaper then Dirt Molle first aid pouch. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MOLLE453-1.html

It really is the core of my kit and easily goes from pack to pack depending on the time of year and activities.

I like the looks of your pouch with a couple of things I dont.

-Velcro sucks, it wears, it attacts things, etc.
-The outer buckle will take a beating if mounted externally on a pack
-I dont see the velcro window being all that practical or reliable
-There is no way to attach directly to a belt

I really like the internal organization which is something I alaways prefer. I think you would have a more useful product if you trimmed up the outside to make it clean and durable and focused on the inside.

Like anything, at the end of the day price is always a factor. I would pay $50 for something that really fit my needs. Then again for less then $12 I can get by with something and make it work. Like I said, I think your niche is on the inside, not the outside, no need to reinvent that wheel

A very good design overall knifecoop! Kudos to you and your bro for putting some great ideas into the design. I’m going to contact Joe as this has a lot of potential. I do like the card holder idea; for those that need quick access to lined-reporting formats, this is very handy. Whether it’s a MEDEVAC, or other format, it takes a lot of stress out of having to fumble for your SOP card or go off of memory.

Very nice design and well executed by Zulu Tactical…thanks for sharing!

I'd be in for one if you or Zulu make it. They do some fantastic work. Great design!

I like the idea alot. I did something similar with one of those BDU pocket organizer. I would like to use something larger like yours.
